Enrique Bordes Mangel : La Sustancia De La Fotografía

Enrique Bordes Mangel y Cervantes (1922 – 2008) –together with Nacho Lopez, Hector Garcia, and Rodrigo Moya– belongs to a group of extraordinary photographers who used their lenses to immortalize themes linked to Mexican art during the nineteen fifties and sixties. To celebrate his career and honor the fifth anniversary of his death, UNAM San Antonio presents the exhibition premiere of this collection of images, in collaboration with UNAM’s Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas in Mexico.

First, I apologize for not making it to the Meetup. My flight back from Dallas was delayed. Second, thanks to Jessie and Gary for figuring out the location. I hope to see y'all again soon. Our next event is Sunday 9 September at the Witte Museum: Texas Impressionist art and a jazz concert.

The Enrique Bordes event was at the UNAM, next door to the Institute. They had a 40 minute lecture/power point show about the life and work of Enrique Bordes Mangel, followed by finger food, then we checked out the collection of pictures. Good show Bill, thanks! Jessie

There are a lot of things to see at the Mexican Cultural Institute (Instituto Cultural de Mexico). Unfortunately, the Institute, as well as the adjacent UNAM does not promote their events. I have seen great theater from Spain, great music from several places, etc. But only when I'm lucky that somebody tells me about it.

If any of you members of the SA Visual and Performing Arts know about any event from the Instituto Cultural de Mexico or de adjacent UNAM San Antonio, please let us know!!! Martha

But I wish they were more transparent. It is very difficult to figure out what and when events they will have. And the events are very good. For example, they have offered two free theater plays from Spain. They were great.

I promise I will do my best to find out what's going on on the Instituto Cultural de Mexico.
