Exhibition Talk: Matisse And Picasso

Though their first meeting was less than cordial, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso would develop a decades-long relationship built upon mutual respect and a lively discourse about each other’s work. William J. Chiego, Director, and Lyle Williams, Curator, Prints and Drawings, talk about the influence the two 20th-century artists had on one another and discuss how their works in the McNay’s collection are related in terms of form and meaning.

It would have been better had the museum accounted for the audience space.

Michael, thanks for accompanying me through the McNay. I had fun and hope to see you at the San Antonio Museum of Art. I will be dropping off my application tomorrow

Bill, that was another wonderful meetup. After we were squeezed out of the scheduled lecture, I was happy to do what I could to make our time in the museum beneficial. I enjoyed the discussions I had with others of the McNay's fantastic collection of modern art. I hope to see everyone again there for the next exhibit opening.

Friends, I enjoyed seeing each of you and I enjoyed another stroll thru the McNay.
I was disappointed at the talk being shifted from the lecture hall to the print gallery at the last minute, as that made it difficult for us to join in the lecture.
Thank you, Michael, for helping us redirect ourselves to a walking tour of the McNay's collection.
