March Meetup - Introducing FreeBSD, the "unknown giant"

Date: Tuesday 19 March 2013 (3rd Tues every month)

Time: 18:00 - 20:30

Title: Introduction to FreeBSD

Abstract: An introduction to FreeBSD. Discover this interesting yet relatively unknown Unix-like OS that has become integral to operating systems like Apple OS X.

The discussion will take you through the history, business model and why people use and build on FreeBSD. Daniel will discuss basic installation and configuration of the system.
Time permitting we will look at advanced features such as installing a Windows driver and re-compiling the kernel for optimisation. There's also time for your questions.

Speaker: Daniel Hellegouarch is an IT consultant, skilled in a wide range of technologies, working in both France and Australia. His experience includes implementing and administering Microsoft products, and providing open source business solutions that often include Centos, Red Hat and FreeBSD.

Purpose: To bring together system administrators, ICT support staff, computer/network programmers/administrators. Visitors welcome. Bring friends or colleagues; we are always keen to meet new people. Please consider the benefits of becoming a member:
