September Meetup - When prevention fails!

Title: When prevention fails!

Abstract: The technical security solutions you can buy will ultimately not be 100% successful. Therefore it is useful to think about techniques post compromise, and what you have to do to be in a position to respond meaningfully when a control (like IPS) fails.

Speaker: Dean Frye is the technical director for Asia Pacific at Sourcefire, responsible for the security engineering team. He has over 15 years' experience in networking and security, authoring a number of whitepapers, and is an experienced practitioner in security operations incident management.

Purpose: SAGE-AU NSW meets every third Tuesday night in Sydney, to bring together system administrators, ICT professionals, computer/network programmers/administrators and related people. Visitors welcome; bring a friend or colleague. Please consider the benefits of becoming a member: http://www.sage-au.org.au/membership.

Program:

18:00 Pre-meeting drinks and food in Google's Corroboree Tech Talk room

18:30 Meeting commences promptly - don't be late!
- Introductions and any general business
- Brief NSW AGM and committee election
- Dean's presentation
- Q & A and topical debate

20:00 Close - optionally adjourn to nearby pub for anyone keen to continue discussion.

RSVP: Please RSVP before noon on the day, here or by email to william.shipway at member.sage-au.org.au. Google's security requirements mean we must know who's attending. If arriving after 6:30pm, please call an organiser on[masked] or 0417 401581.

Archive: Previous presentation recordings are posted at http://vimeo.com/groups/sysadmin/videos

Distribution: Please feel free to redistribute this notice to anyone who may be interested.

Help! I cannot attend the meeting but could someone who will and works in/near the CBD help bring my camera equipment bag (photo link enclosed) so others can record the talk?

None of the regular organisers/assistants can conveniently get to it and I would like to avoid going to Google if I can hand it over for pickup at my work lobby reception 100 Market St. or in person if you want to meet/catch up over lunch [masked])? Thanks.

Actually, ignore that. I've have just been told the speaker has requested the presentation not be recorded. Slides may or not be available afterwards but better attend if you want to hear it, enjoy :-)
