Title: How IT departments become "Service Brokers"

Abstract: Business can now source many services from external providers, at a very attractive price. Yet this multi-sourcing approach actually presents IT with a wonderful opportunity to position themselves as a true business service broker, working with their corporate customers to assist them make key decisions.

Understanding how the cloud ecosystem for IT suppliers and outsourcing providers develops will be fundamental to IT strategies. In-house IT departments can to play a pivotal role in providing these broker services.

Wayne will discuss a case study in which an IT shop reinvented itself from the traditional in-house IT department, to one that focussed on providing services that met the changing needs of their business.

Contrary to what some of us in the industry would expect, the IT department actually grew in size, albeit in a different organisation structure to 12 months earlier. The IT department is now clearly the “lead” service broker, and their perceived value to the business has increased dramatically.

Speaker: Wayne Scott - Wayne is an experienced management consultant, with a specific interest and track record in service management improvement initiatives. He has worked in the IT industry for over 15 years, most recently as a Senior Consultant with Dowling Consulting, where he assists clients resolve many of their operational and business challenges.

As well as being a qualified ITIL Expert, Wayne also has a Masters Degree in Business and Technology form UNSW. He has spoken at many industry conferences, including the IT Service Management of Australia annual event. At an operational level, he has led and been involved as a key stakeholder in many service management related initiatives traversing industry sectors including Finance, Telecommunications, Logistics and IT.
