Puppet Training 1

  • March 12, 2013 · 6:00 PM

This month I will be running an interactive training session for puppet. I will be providing an entry level introduction to puppet 3 mostly aimed at those who have never used puppet before or need a crash course with puppet 3.

I will be explaining the setup process from install onwards with stopovers in enrolling a node with the master, setting up data with hiera, node definitions and setting up classes and such.

I will try to cover as much as possible in the time and focus on things as needed by the participants.

I will have a puppetmaster setup a copy of the centos repositories and a wireless network setup.

If you would like to get involved in the session please bring a laptop with a CentOS 6.3 VM (upgraded if you can).

Space is limited so get in early.

    Hi Pete,
Thought this might be useful for those of use rushing to get sorted for tonight. Using Vagrant and VirtalBox you can get a bare bones going using the Puppet Labs box:

    vagrant box add centos63 http://puppet-vagrant-boxes.puppetlabs.com/centos-63-x64.box

    Cheers,

    Michael

If there are more folks who've never used Puppet, i'm happy to pull out in their favour as well. I've been using it for a few years, but haven't really progressed past the basic features.

As I sit beside you ~40 hours a week, I'll pull out to give someone else a go.

I've dropped out to let someone else who is new to puppet take my spot. I was just interested in the differences from v2 to v3. So if there are notes, or a second run I'll check that out :)

I'll make space for someone who is learning puppet. I was just interested in the diffs between 2 and 3. I'll look at the notes after if there are some :)

I'll ask a sillier question: where's the best place to park for those of us who are legging it in from the suburbs?

I shall check with the aarnet lads tomorrow and get back to you.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
