Night Tubing & Cookout on the Comal River

**This will be the only Night Tubing event of 2013**

This Meetup group is where we post Adventure Club SA events that are open to the public.  To view our full Calendar of Events averaging over 60 activities every month visit: .

Join us at Texas Tubes in New Braunfels on Saturday, 6/15 for a moonlight tubing trip on the Comal River.  These are usually our biggest events of the summer.  We will start the cookout at 6:00 PM, and get on the river about 9:00 PM. The moon should be about half-full tonight. Regardless, the lights of New Braunfels provide plenty of visibility if it is cloudy.  We should be done by about 11:00 PM, give or take.  The float usually takes a couple of hours depending on the river flow rate.  After the float we will probably go to Phoenix Saloon. It is in downtown New Braunfels only a few blocks from Texas Tubes.  Phoenix Saloon is very casual.  You can just throw on some shorts and a t-shirt.

The Comal River, at about 2 1/2 miles in length, is claimed to be the shortest river in the world.  It is entirely within the city limits of New Braunfels until it joins the Guadalupe River just upstream from IH 35.  It has a year-round temperature of 72 degrees, and is quite comfortable on a hot Texas Summer evening.

**$25 cash at the event.**

We will also be doing a membership special that will only be available in person at the Night Tubing event and the June Meet & Greet. To celebrate 11 awesome years of Adventure Club SA, you can purchase as many months of ACSA membership as you like for $10 per month. This is a 60% savings over our normal monthly rate. This won't be available as a recurring billing, but you can purchase as many months of membership as you wish at this event. (For example, 2 years would be $240)  This is available for new, current or former members.

Included in the price is tube rental, shuttle, dinner and a glow necklace.  Texas Tubes also provides our group with free tubes for coolers.  We will be serving hamburgers (and veggie burgers), hot dogs, and will have lots of chips and dips, veggie & fruit trays, etc., as well as a keg of Dos XX, soft drinks and Kangen Water.  You are also welcome to bring anything to share if you like, but it is not required.  BYOB on the adult beverages other than the Dos XX. You may want to bring a lawn chair for the cookout. Feel free to bring extra glow necklaces, bracelets, earrings, bunny ears, etc.  The more we have the more of a spectacle it is on the river.  You can get the glow stuff at Party City.

Remember, no glass or styrofoam is allowed on any Texas river.  There are a number of other regulations in place regarding the Comal including no disposable containers, no containers under 5 fluid ounces, no volume drinking devices like beer bongs, coolers must be no larger than 16 quarts and have a locking lid, as well as other rules.  To take any beverage on the river, you must have it in a container like a bike bottle or Nalgene bottle that is designed for multiple uses.  No single-use containers are allowed.  To see the full list of rules regarding the Comal River see the city of New Braunfels'' Water the Rules website.  Jello shots are fine at Texas Tubes, but not allowed on the river.

Texas Tubes does not allow outside tubes.  In other words, you must use a tube from Texas Tubes.

If you get cold easily, you might want to consider wearing some type of windbreaker.  They are usually made of nylon and dry quickly.  A cotton shirt will just hold water next to your skin and keep you cooler.

Wear some good river shoes in case you have to stand in the river.  For sandals, they should have a heel strap.  Flip-flops come off really easily in the river and are virtually useless.

Some people will be going early and doing a float at 3:30 PM.  If you''d like to do the day float too, there is no extra charge.

Texas Tubes has remote parking lots that are close to Texas Tubes. They are selling wristbands there. Do NOT buy one. Be sure to wait until you get to the Adventure Club registration table at the back of the Texas Tubes property to buy your wristband.  This will only apply if you are attending the day float because they don''t sell wristbands to the public after 5:00 PM.

Parking can be a pain at Texas Tubes, carpooling is recommended.  Recommended carpool location/time is Starbucks at The Forum at 1604 & 35.  2:45 PM for Day Float, 5:15 PM for Cookout & Night Float.  There is not anyone officially leading carpooling, but if you go there meet at the tables right outside the front door of Starbucks.  Be sure to only ride with someone who is planning on returning at the same time as you are. Give them gas money if you ride with someone else!

Although this is a very safe stretch of river, if you are not a strong swimmer it is recommended that you wear a life jacket.  Texas Tubes provides them for free.

If you are planning on staying in New Braunfels overnight, you should make hotel or camping reservations as early as possible.  A suggested place to camp is Landa RV & Campground, right next to Texas Tubes.  Comal River Cottages and River Run Condos are right next to Texas Tubes as well.  The historic Faust Hotel is located near Phoenix Saloon.  Most places in New Braunfels do not take reservations for just one night during the summer.

From IH 35 in New Braunfels take exit #187 and turn WEST on Seguin Ave. Take Seguin Ave. all the way down to... and through the Town Square circle (go halfway around and then exit). Continuing on Seguin Ave., stay to the right when it begins to "Y" or split. Take Seguin Ave. until it dead ends at the Railroad tracks, turn right onto Meusebach Drive...go 500 ft. until it ends and you will see a huge Texas Tubes sign. Cross over the Railroad Tracks at Market Ave. and Meusebach Dr. to enter Texas Tubes.

I would like to go but I work Saturday and get off work at 5 pm (or when my last call ends - I work in a call center), and live on the northwest side. Could someone arrange a different, and maybe slightly later, carpool meeting location on the northwest side (near Bandera & 410)?
