Breakfast Potluck - Tropical Theme (we like themed potlucks)

Calling all breakfast and brunch fans!!!  We have been out to brunch together enough times - I know who you are and what you like to order.  Waffles, pancakes, breakfast burritos, omelettes, corn beef hash, extra thick bacon, biscuits and gravy, chorizo scrambles, french toast and mimosas.  Well, now it's time to put you to the test because you will be making breakfast for us all to taste and share.

Self-proclaimed Breakfast Aficionado, Todd is inviting us over to his beach pad again for his favorite meal.  Will we see Todd's beloved waffle iron!?  And since I like themed potlucks, the breakfast potluck theme is TROPICAL.  Think Hawaiian, Caribbean, Polynesian, etc.

Please list what you are going to bring in your RSVP Comment!  Don't forget we need some appetizers/entrees with meat, please.

What to bring:

1) One potluck item per attendee (if you are bringing a guest, please make sure to indicate what you are bringing for each person)

2) If you are picking up something from the store, please spend at least $15. We prefer you cook or bake.

3) Your own serving platter and utensil.

4) An alcoholic beverage for yourself and/or to share (optional). Water and soft drinks will be provided.

5) Ziploc bags or plastic containers to take home leftovers

Event address and contact info will be sent to you prior to the event.

NOTE: Todd has a dog. If you are allergic to dogs, please reconsider your rsvp.

Mine is a sausage stuffed french bread. More of a dip than a sandwich.....

For all attendees - You may use anything in the kitchen - I have TWO waffles irons (I will be using one) and a small iron skillet. I will have coffee with half/half, skim milk, sugar and a little fake sweetener.

Let me know if you have any special requests. Also note that I will have a guest staying in my second bedroom, so please stay clear of there. There is a bathroom upstairs and one in my bedroom that you can use.

Parking may be difficult, so give yourself some time. I will attempt to orchestrate parking in my driveway to maximize the number of cars that will fit.

I love breakfast, and make a great frittata (what happened to the one Jon and I were gonna co-host w/ his creme brulee French Toast...?). Hmm, tropical? Eggs and pineapple? That doesn't sound tasty. I have to consider what to make for this one.

Okay, that tropical egg thing is still not setting well with my palette. I'm thinking Banana Breakfast Dumplings (http://joythebaker.co...), but then it now seems like we have enough carbs...

Nix the breakfast casserole. I won't have enough time to get it all done Saturday morning so I am conforming to the "tropical" theme and bringing a tropical fruit parfait.

    August 28, 2013

  • Debbie F.

Sorry, but the family that was coming on Sunday is instead arriving on Saturday. I was looking forward to having brunch with you all. Bummer!

I'll unfortunately have to give up my spots since my house-kitchen remodel is not quite finished as anticipated and I'm unable to cook or bake. And bringing something pre-made doesn't seem to fit the spirit of our group. Have fun! I'll miss seeing you guys...

    August 27, 2013

  • Dean

Sorry haven't had much time to sort out what were makingf but will get it on the schedule tomorrow or latest wednesday. Thanks...

I just joined, and put in my RSVP - but there was no place to add what I'll bring ... I'll be bringing fresh fruit with dip.

For all attendees - This weekend is the Hermosa Beach Fiesta, so feel free to come early (or stay late) and visit the pier plaza for an outdoor fair. It is big, and streets will be closed, so be ready for traffic and parking challenges.

Thanks for the info, Todd. Is your home very close, within walking distance to the Fiesta? JW so I have an idea as to parking. Thanks.

      August 26, 2013

    • Todd K.

Yes, about a ten minute walk.

      August 26, 2013

  • Victor

Not sure how many of the items already taken are "tropical" so I will plan on a breakfast casserole.

    August 25, 2013

  • Mae L.

    Will bring lemon squares

    August 25, 2013

  • Jay

Just to confirm, I'll be bringing fried chicken and for my guest, I'll bring homemade drop biscuits and sausage gravy.

    August 25, 2013

  • Jay

Hi Todd. I'm new to the group, but I only live a couple of blocks from you on 28th St. I'll RSVP when it opens. I was thinking about making some fried chicken to go with the waffles or maybe a big batch of homemade biscuits and sausage gravy. Let me know what you think the group would prefer.

    August 8, 2013

    • Jay

Two waffle irons! You're very serious about waffles! I'll think of something else to bring. I think you've got the waffle situation well in hand. :-)
