World Trade Week - Free Public Boat Tours

Boat tour and lunch afterwards in San Pedro - sounds like a nice way to spend a Saturday morning in May!  I have not tried this before (though I have lived in Pedro for more than 8 years).  Let's check it out together.

*Bring a sweater, hat, sunglasses, etc just in case.

Here is info from the Harbor's website:

Free, 60-minute narrated boat tours of the Port of Los Angeles in celebration of World Trade Week.  Tours are from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.  Tour availability is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

We are located approximately 20 miles south of the Los Angeles International Airport. From the freeways, take 110 South [Harbor Freeway] to the Harbor Boulevard off ramp, and turn right onto Harbor Boulevard. Go one mile to 6th Street, and turn left.  Note: If using Google Maps, GPS, or other websites to obtain driving directions, enter our address as “600 Sampson Way, San Pedro CA 90731“. Google Maps does not recognize berth numbers.

The Museum is located at the foot of 6th Street in John S. Gibson Park. The park includes monuments to the US Navy heavy cruiser LOS ANGELES, the Fishing Industry Memorial, the Bloody Thursday Monument, and the American Merchant Marine Veterans Memorial.  The Museum is a special facility of the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks.

Free parking is available in the lot across the street from Acapulco Restaurant, south of the Museum.

Do we need to RSVP to the port? Did you reserve for the whole group? Is it a get-there-at-9, and maybe get on at 11? (listening to Martha)

I had to change my RSVP to "No". A friend reminded me that we have theater tickets that day, so it isn't going to work this time. Sorry to miss it.

I can't go, but have to tell you that I had another meetup at Ports of Call on a Saturday recently. Plan to be there AT LEAST 1 hour before boat launch time. Traffic is TERRIBLE on Harbor Blvd (almost crawling) so suggest taking an alternate route to get into the Ports of Call/Maritime Museum area (e.g. take Pacific to 6th street). Out of our group meeting there for the event I attended, only one arrived in time to catch the boat, the rest of us took the next one. VERY crowded, had to drive around for parking (yes free, but limited) almost standing room only if you eat within the Ports of call area.

This sounds great! It's the day of my tea and evening of the retirees dinner-dance... next year, more than likely.
