**Please note - we are currently only admitting new members on a quarterly basis in an attempt to keep this group a small and intimate group of regulars. Please check back in Feb. 2015. We are also limiting membership to those who live in Santa Cruz County - we've found that people from outside the area rarely, if ever attend. **
We are a book club for fun-loving, intelligent gals who like to read and discuss non-fiction books. Meetings will occur at cafes, wine bars and/or restaurants, or in members homes throughout Santa Cruz County. At least half of each meeting will be devoted to book discussion, with the other half for socializing. Meetings are currently held on the 2nd Sunday of the month from 3pm-5pm. Our members range in age from twenties to sixties and we like it that way because we get a wider range of perspectives.
This group is for you if: *you are naturally curious and love learning *you love non-fiction books written towards a general audience (not too academic) *you can commit to reading the selected book and attending monthly meetings at least 1/3 of the time - this group is meant to be a small, intimate group of regulars so that you can form relationships. Regular attendance and participation is required *you are respectful of others opinions and agree to follow good book club etiquette *you want a book club that is a good balance between book discussion and social time
Titles we have read so far (as of March 2014) *The Rise of Enlightened Sexism *The End of Overeating *Drive *Brilliant Blunders *Man's Search for Meaning *Can't Buy My Love *Finding Moosewood, Finding God *Quiet, The Power of Introverts *The Female Brain *The Last Lecture *The Shallows *The Year of Living Biblically *Lies My Teacher Told Me *Stiff *Outliers *The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks *Moonwalking With Einstein
I started this group because I feel that there is not enough emphasis in most book groups on non-fiction and I've read so many books that I feel would make for really great discussion.
