Coastal Bike Tour and Island Hop

I have been wanting to do this for some time, and with our recent visit to Savannah to see the light house there, decided this is the year for a really good RELAXING ride. If you don't think the weather will be just right, please suggest a better time.

We want to stay in Beaufort SC for at least one night then do some island hopping during our stay. So plan for pictures and picturesque landscapes and relaxation. Perhaps we should plan to start Friday and run till Sunday. I think it will be a lot of fun. We may even think about running the coast of SC for beaches and light houses.

What a fantastic weekend! The best part of the ride was being with our old friends and making some awesome new ones!!! A huge thank you to Jimmy for putting together an absolutely amazing weekend. Weather was perfect, the sites we visited were beyond beautiful. I loved Fort Pulaski and the beaches! I just loved the whole trip. I can't begin to tell all of you how thankful Mac and I are for the second family we have with you all. Jimmy this was the perfect ride. Doubt you can top this but looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the future!

We had a wonderful time this weekend!!! The weather couldn't have been more perfect, the group of people we went with couldn't have more friendly, the trip itself couldn't have been planned and organized any better and the all the places we went to were all outstanding! We really enjoyed meeting and making new riding friends too. Jimmy, thanks for all the time and effort I know you put into this trip so we could all have such an awesome experience! I think this ride was one of the best we have ever been on! Really looking forward to our next excursion!

We just wanted to say, this was one of the best weekends we have had in a long time, the weather was beautiful and also this is one of the best group of people that we have met in a very long time. We brought a few of our friends with us and all of the group made them feel welcomed, and Jimmy I do have to say GREAT planning. (So are we ready to do this again next weekend)..... B&G

    Awesome with perfect SC weather.

The planning took some time since this was my first attempt using some mapping software that gave me GPS waypoints and detailed arrival times, which turned out to be pretty accurate. All in all, I lucked up with the weather and the great friends who made the trip best of all. We each had our own favorite part of the journey but mine was Hunting Island.
I took over 2600 pictures of the weekend and have the tough job of picking my best 150.
    I had a great time.

My (our) main goal is to have fun and not have any hard feelings for any reason, if we can help it. With this in mind, there is no reason we will not enjoy being with our friends and make this one heck of a relaxing trip for all, so I ask that each of you read and follow some guidelines that our club has provided with lots of expertise from our oldtimers. I have seen this happen to often than not that groups with this many people have hard feelings for some very small things when we have high expectations for a long trip. They can be fun but at the same time cause miniscule problems which I hope to relax as much as possible.
I hope you don't think I am sounding like a fuddy-duddy (or need a snickers bar) when it comes to this, but this is very important to me and I hope you don't think it sounds dumb. I am ultimately responsible for everything that happens.

Is long but important. Please post any concerns.

Sorry I won't be able to make it. Hope everyone has a great time. Ride safe.

    April 2, 2014

  • Jimmy B.

There will be more stops of course but here is an overall plan for all to see.
Georgia to maybe North Carolina so wear you helmet.
1st day: Wormsloe near Savannah, Tybee Island, Fort Pulaski then Beaufort to check in to hotel. If enough time ride to hunting island. That's day one.

    April 1, 2014

  • David and Lynn B.

Looks like Lynn and I might end up making the last trip out of the area around 2:00.

    March 29, 2014

  • Mac M.

Lindy & I will not be able to leave Columbia until around 10:00am or so. If anyone else can't make the 7:00am leave time and would like to ride with us, let me know.

    March 29, 2014

  • Paula R.

We made the room reservations for Sam and me to go...please pray that Sam will be feeling much better by the time this trip rolls around so we'll be able to ride with y'all! Really looking forward to this ride...Hunting Island is so beautiful.

    March 21, 2014

    • Jimmy B.

Thanks for going with us. I think it will be a great trip too. What better than to be with friends on such a great trip and Sam, we hope you feel better by that time.

Have booked rooms for this trip today.

    March 18, 2014

  • Larry and Carolyn B.

I booked rooms too. Just to make sure the hotels are Days Inn Port Royal, 160 Ribaut Rd, Beaufort, and Baymont Inn and Suites, 120 Church St, Georgetown. Is that right?

    March 18, 2014

  • David and Lynn B.

    We are all set.

    March 18, 2014

  • Jimmy B.

I booked a double on both today.

    March 17, 2014

    • Mac M.

      We're booked as well

      March 18, 2014

  • Jimmy B.

Looks like quite a few couples are signing up for this ride which is great. There are still some who may want to share a room to save costs. Please buddy up with someone or ask me to help.

To book your room, go to priceline.com and look for a hotel called Days Inn Port Royal in Beaufort SC. That is a bout $50 April 11 for one night.

April 12 second night we will stay in Georgetown SC at a place called Baymont Inn & Suites. The Baymont is about $67 so this is not too terribly bad.

Not sure how many rooms are left and going through priceline there is no way to rooms together so do your best. At least we will be in same building.

If you can't get a room, please find something near, if you can.

    March 17, 2014

  • Mac M.

I do hope we get to go on this ride. I absolutely love the coast. This is my kind of ride!!!
