Salon meeting

I and the membership would like to hold our meetings every second Monday of the month.  However, we moved the next meeting to  April 22 because I'm going to be out of town the week of  April 8th and can't make April 15 work.

At this point, we're meeting at Caribou Coffee next to the mall.  This is somewhat problematic because I learned that it costs $25 in the form of a gift card simply to use the meeting room.  One of our members very kindly offered to pay for the card indefinitely, but I'm still not happy with that arrangement since it seems an unfair burden on one person.  Therefore, I'm also going to look into the costs, if any, of using a St. Cloud Library meeting room.  That change to a more spacious room than the one available at Caribou might have to occur anyway b/c the membership is about fourteen now, not counting the people that joined today!

Just so everyone knows, I may have another place that might work to meet. There's a separate room in Sawatdee that we might be able to reserve.

I really like Caribou, though. It's so straight forward with getting there, and coffee drinks available. I think to avoid any more confusion we should just stick to the original location.

Next meeting is Monday May 13 at the Crossroads Caribou at 7 pm, meet in general seating if the room is not available...we should have it by 7:30 until 9:00.
Before the meetup please check out the FB page I made as a temporary place for notifications alternative to this site. Hopefully Nancy will respond to our request to appoint a few associates so we can still use this site, but if we don't get that done, we can continue to try to use this site or use one on FB until Nancy gets back.

Nancy, This is a writer's group, right; not your personal thing. Do we need to form a new group in order to meet without you? We made a commitment to each other to meet on the 13th and I hope many will honor it.

good for only the second meeting of a new group

We decided our meeting will be on the second Monday of May and continue on the second Monday of each month.
We decided to meet at 7 PM at Caribou Coffee though we will not have access to the meeting room until later.
I still think we should consider meeting at the library. We would have to end earlier since the library begins closing at 8:45.
Food and beverage are allowed in the downstairs meeting rooms. Only beverage in a covered container, is allowed in the upper level rooms.

I didn't realize how new this group was. I'm in if the group is serious about writers giving support to other writers. A group where we can hold each other accountable for meeting goals. I am not looking for a place to learn grammar, punctuation or even plot. Dozens of avenues exist for that. We agreed to prepare a <1,000 word piece on "behind the scenes."
We divided in groups of three to take home each others prepared piece to critique for next meeting. No guidelines for critiquing were given.

By default as no one has created a plan to the contrary we are meeting at 7 at Caribou on Division next to the mall....it's easy to get to, about a block and a half from Barnes & Noble. Perhaps we can today make a plan for the future. I've run Meetups Before 2 - 3 of them so I will help. See you at 7....I may be a little early and I'll have a little tabletop sign with the Meetup red & white logo on it. We'll have a great meeting. Peace Out!

I feel confused. Where are we meeting?
Carol I hope that you are ok. Praying for a speedy recovery.

Or, we could do BOTH....everyone who wants free coffee meet and greet at the Caribou at 6:30 then move to the Barnes & Noble at 7 pm for meeting....I'm flexible. Nancy, will you deputize someone to be in charge of this meetup on Monday if you are not going to be here? There's really only hours left and everyone is expecting to meet at Caribou. I say if Nancy doesn't make it, those of us who can, meet at the Caribou at 6:30 get our coffee, leave a note or message about our group so they will know and move to the Barnes & Noble for the actual meetup at 7 pm....how's that?

    April 20, 2013

This sounds like the best idea. Some of us don't drink coffee, so don't care about getting it free, but we all want to get together and it sounds like B&N would be easiest for Tracey.

I'd like to 2nd the Barnes & Noble idea. I use a motorized wheelchair and have difficulty finding transportation. Barnes & Noble is close enough that I could get there in my wheelchair.

  • Chris St G.

Nancy, how about we go with Lynn's idea....if YOU say it, it's a lock....free coffee at the Caribou - bring your own cup....?

    April 19, 2013

  • Chris St G.

Or the free coffee at Caribou is a good idea too...why would we have to get the special room?

    April 19, 2013

  • Chris St G.

I suggest instead we meet at the Barnes & Noble (@ Hwy 15 and Division) in the coffee area - it won't likely be busy, it's free, you can get libations if you choose, its practically across the street from the original location, it's free with free parking, easy to find, and you're surrounded by books so it's inspiring for writers. If you like this idea, email in your confirmation and we'll get started and make some progress on these writing/publishing goals!

Greetings, writers! I'm sorry that I've been absent from this website. I'm in the midst of interviewing for teaching positions, and I'm actually flying to Illinois tomorrow for a two-day interview. If someone would like to reserve a room in the St. Cloud Library, go ahead and do it.

Caribou is advertising a free reg coffee on the 22nd, Earth Day, if you bring your own cup. reg or decaff coffee, not speciality coffees or teas. So bring your cup and get free coffee the night of our meeting!

Hi. I'd like to meet & commiserate periodically with other serious writers publishing their early work...it's a milestone for sure just to let go and let someone else read or even see my stuff, much less critique it, eh? Love to get together in between meetups, too, I mean build real relationships to keep motivated .....ever see "Castle"? ....no poker required! Peace Out!
