re:Capping re:Invent -- and Spreading Holiday Cheer!

The Topics

Some of us attended the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas from Nov 12 - 15. And everyone who did had a different experience. The constant question on the last day was, "How was your conference?"

Let's get together and compare notes, talk about the announcements, and we can watch some of the videos if you think that would be interesting. There may be some AWS architects in the group (Jon recently became one), so also feel free to bring questions about what you're trying to achieve with your AWS installation.

Jon and I have swag and other goodies to share. Bring yours if you'd like to swap!

In addition, Jon has now taken two of the certification exams, and would be happy to talk about them (within the confines of the NDAs, of course) if people are interested in that.

Please come if you went to the conference--and please come if you didn't  ;)

Food!

We will be serving pizza, antipasto, drinks, and desserts.

I hope you had a good meetup. I'm curious what was the most interesting announcement for the members of the SD group?

I think WorkSpaces got the most discussion… Kinesis is very interesting to people, too, but I think we're all still trying to understand it. What was the buzz at your meetup?

Almost exactly the same. Workspaces seemed to be a popular announcement, and there was some good discussion about the new c3 class servers. With regards to Workspaces, the discussion was around mostly "knowledge workers" and "seasonal workers" being a great use case of workspaces. I proposed that workspaces could also be an important step in enabling BYOD (bring your own device), since data security is somewhat covered, in that your data doesn't leave the workstation. When a user logs off, the data doesn't reside on his device.

Of course, little did we know, the day after our meetup, Amazon announced autoscaling from the console - that would have got a big cheer at the meetup!

We're sorry you can't make it, Kevin--and sorry we can't get up to Santa Monica to yours. Maybe another time.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
