BOOKCLUB: Eat to Live

PRIVATE EVENT, MEMBERS ONLY: Space is limited, please update your RSVP if you cannot make it so waitlisted members have a chance to attend

Our third bookclub will be Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. This book is credited with turning many health-minded people vegan, including our beloved member Callie and Miss Anna's parents! Those interested in health information should find this book informative and eye-opening.

THE BOOK: The Eat To Live is Dr. Fuhrman's revolutionary six-week plan. It explains how and why eating the wrong foods causes toxic hunger and the desire to over consume calories; whereas a diet of high micronutrient quality causes true hunger which decreases the sensations leading to food cravings and overeating behaviors.  It instructs readers on how to leave behind the discomfort of toxic hunger, cravings, and addictions to unhealthy foods.

You can find the book  on Amazon:

• Paperback: http://amzn.to/1kFoCHV

• Kindle: http://amzn.to/1p7IW50

I'm not sure if any of the local libraries have it, please update us if you are able to locate it. Feel free to organize book sharing in the comments with each other!

THE FOOD: In the spirit of health, please bring a vegan dish to share that follows the tenants of Eat to Live, or is a recipe from the back of the book.

You can also go here for Eat to Live friendly recipes: https://www.drfuhrman.com/library/recipes.aspx

THE PLAN: We'll eat and socialize from 6:00-7:00pm and then we'll start the book discussion. The discussion typically lasts 60-90 minutes.

THE LOCATION: The beautiful, kind and super-smart Jennifer is graciously opening her home to us. Their complex is named "Treviso". When you enter on Rancho Fanita, take a right into the complex. Her number is[masked] if you get lost :)

PARKING: Jennifer says you can park anywhere in the complex that isn't marked with a number. She'll have parking passes for everyone that need to be put in your car before settling in for the event.

GOODREADS: For those interested, I started a GoodReads group for our bookclub. I'm hoping this is a resource for everyone, especially those who can't attend the live discussions. Feel free to make book recommendations in that group, as well as join in on or start any discussions in the forum.

I had a great time last night, the food was amazing as always and the conversation was natural and stimulating. Sorry I talked about poop so much!

    • Jennifer

haha! That's alright Nichole, we still love you ;) It is startling though how many people are SO constipated when they aren't on a plant-based diet (not surprising though)

Amazing meeting! EVERYONE liked the book which is amazing in and of itself. Several following the diet. One person lost 15 pounds in 4 weeks. I'm inspired by her -- hope to do the same!!! Thanks Jennifer! Of course you cooked practically a whole meal. Added to all the other goodies it was a feast! This discussion was spectacular. I got lots of ideas! Thanks to you all!!

I learned a lot from this discussion--even though I'd read most of the book. Thanks, Jennifer, for hosting! I liked the Dr Oz intro.

    Hey Ladies,

I lamed out and didn't read the book. Sorry. I'm hoping to learn a ton of inspiring tid-bits from you all tonight!

  • Abby

    Ladies,
I apologize for canceling last minute, but I've been deathly ill with the flu since Sunday after chaperoning jr. high kids to DC. I thought for sure I'd be better by today, but it's worse than ever and my fever is still lingering. I don't want to spread any germs, so I won't chance overdosing on meds just to show up. I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you at the next book club! I'm SO bummed!! I learned so much from this book about a plant based diet and it was very inspiring to read.

    April 30, 2014

    • Jennifer

Feel better soon Abby and make sure to stay hydrated!

      April 30, 2014

    • Amanda

Feel better Abby! Taking a group of Jr high kids across country is enough to make anyone sick! :)

Hey lovely ladies! I look forward to seeing tomorrow night for book club.
Once you turn into the Treviso complex, take a right and you can park in any unmarked spot. I will leave parking passes on the stairs when you enter my house for you to grab & put in your car. If you have any problems, call my cell at[masked]-2492. We'll eat at 6pm and then discuss the book afterwards. If you haven't had the chance to read the whole thing, no prob! We'll still have a great time discussing.

The book is available at Abebooks.com for around $4.00 including shipping. The copy I got came in about a week and it's in like new condition. Only thing missing are the anecdotal stories. There are other Dr. F. books also available.

Just finished the book and LOVED it! So inspiring! I posted my recommendation for it to my work's social network and the post is getting a LOT of attention. Hopefully a bunch of people will read it and spread the word!

I'm so glad to hear that you liked it Nichole & that people at work are interested!! I wonder if his new book The End of Dieting is a similar read (I'm guessing so)

I'm working my way through it and trying to follow Dr. F's guidelines for healthy eating. I followed it this weekend while on a camping trip and had plenty of energy for a 3+ mile hike in the desert!

That's awesome! Maybe we'll watch the video when we get together!

This book changed my life! I became a vegan after reading it! It is all about health and what to do to become a vegan. He's a medical doctor. Every sentence is well worded and backed with gobs of research -- yet it is an easy read. Includes GREAT recipes that EXCLUDE ALL OIL AND PROCESSED FOODS! Simple and easy! My book is so marked up I couldn't loan it to anyone! :)
