Did you know that San Diego County has more small farms (less than 10 acres) than any other county in the nation?!
The goal of our Meetup group is to learn more about our local food source. I would love to meet other like-minded individuals who care about the food they eat, where it comes from, and how we (as a society) can increase our awareness, and be better consumers in what we buy and eat. Together we will learn what it means for food to be organic vs. pesticide free, hormone free, non-GMO, free-range, sustainability, etc, etc. My goal is to organize events that are educational in nature rather than just a "show up and buy/pick on your own". Although we mainly focus on farms, we do occasionally visit local food purveyors to give a more holistic view of our local food source.
In general, our group has 2 types of events – Open Events where any number of people can attend and Limited Space Events where there is a specific maximum number. All Limited Space Events have a strict No-Show policy - After the first No-Show, the member will not be allowed to attend future Limited Space Events. We have this policy to make sure members who want and able to attend an event can do so and not be prevented by other member(s) who ends up flaking. The organizers and farmers take time out of their busy schedules to coordinate informative events and not showing up is just rude and inconsiderate.
Please complete your introduction and upload a photo of yourself. I highly recommend having your face photo since that will help us recognize you during our events that are also open to the general public.
Lets have fun, learn from the experts, and support our local farmers!
