Hello Everyone! Have you been looking to do something different lately. Well how about visiting a local farm?
This meetup consists of educating myself and others as to how a farm works, what kind of food they grow, and how they grow their food. Personally, I want to learn what it means for food to be organic, vs. pesticide free, hormone free, no GMO’s, etc etc. Nowadays it is so confusing to know what is the best thing to buy. Does this interest you too?
I would love to meet other like minded individuals who care about the food they eat, where it comes from, and how we (as a society) can increase our awareness, and be better consumers in what we buy, and eat. My goal is to organize an event at least once a month and the event be educational in nature rather than just a "show up and buy/pick on your own".
In general our group has two types of events - Open events where any number of people can attend and Limited space events where there is a specific maximum number. The Limited space event has a strict No-show policy - After the first No-show, the member will not be allowed to attend future Limited space events. There is a couple of reasons why we have this policy. 1) We want to be fair to all our members and make sure that those who want and able to attend an event can do so and not be prevented by a member(s) who ends up not showing up. 2) All the Organizers work hard to coordinate the event with the Farmer/Guide. We want to make sure that we maintain a good relationship and reputations with all the farmers by being true to our commitment so that we get invited back!
Lets have fun, learn from the experts, and support our local farmer!
FYI--I am not affiliated or work for any of farms we visit. Attendance is at your own risk; please abide by the safety rules and precautions outlined by the farm.
