Held the first Friday of every month, this month on July 1, start your Independence Day weekend at  Friday Night Liberty exploring the NTC Promenade Arts & Cultural District for a free evening of art, receptions, music, food, drink and exhibits, while supporting local artists and designers. The July event featured exhibits include "Lil' Gray" a 26-foot gray whale covered in beach trash created by Coronado artist Teresa Espaniola and the Carlsbad 1st Graders helping to spread the word about plastic pollution in a unique and engaging format; abstract graffiti work of Cuban born Silfredo La O at pulse gallery; Painting the Persian Heart, recent works by Shalah Dorafshan at the Swift Gallery. While there shop for unique fashions and crafts, explore the resident artists' studios, dance studios and enjoy a summer holiday evening. Friday Night Liberty is a monthly first-Friday evening of FREE open artist studios, galleries and events throughout NTC Promenade Arts & Cultural District.   Free parking. Free Admission.  The Freedom to explore, wander and enjoy our growing cultural campus.

  • Open Art Studios and Exhibits include  M. Fischbeck Studio/Gallery.

  • Pantaleoni Photographer - First Annual Sale of Images.  On Friday, July 1st ONLY, everything in the studio is dramatically reduced.  Light refreshments will be served.

  • Velvet Klaw - Various vendors will be joining Velvet Klaw silk screening to offer unique handcrafted items for sale.

  • Mod-Est Studio Gallery –  Arise: From Sea to Soil to Skyfeaturing vivid tree, aquatic and landscape-inspired impressionist paintings by  Kevin Winger.

  • Chi Chocolat - Enjoy artisan chocolates, pastries, espressos and other offerings.

  • Yellow Book Road - Books for children and resources for teachers.

  • fiveloaves twofish  - Women and girls fashion designed and made at NTC.

Art in the Arcades

Artists from the North Park Craft Mafia will sell their crafts in the arcades at Barracks 19 and The Gallery Building 202.  Artists include Mai Couture Shoppe ,   Lisa's Ribbons, Rochelle DiMaggio Jewelry,  Samari Designs Sweet Girl Boutique With Heart by Elaine,   R. Priest Ellgy Company and   Jewels of Friendship.

Building 175 – Dance Place San Diego

  • Mandell Weiss Gallery –  Figuratively Speaking: Bodies in Motion and at Rest  features paintings and drawings by San Diego Theater Critic Pat Launer.  Also all the artists on the  Art Meets Fashion teams each have an exhibit in the Gallery.

Building 176

  • United States  Karate Academy  – Martial Arts class from 5:00-6:30pm.  The public is welcome to watch.

Building 201

  • Martha Pace Swift Gallery –  Painting the Persian Heart Recent works by  Shalah Dorafshan.  Her paintings bestow a strong emphasis upon the faces of her subjects whether solemn, contemplative or contented.

  • Solare Ristorante and Lounge – Enjoy cocktails and dining before or after the art openings.

  • San Diego Coastkeeper -  Coastal Pollution: A Whale of a Problem  will showcase Lil’ Gray, a 26-foot gray whale covered in beach trash. The whale has migrated from SEALIFE aquarium in Carlsbad to the Chula Vista Nature Center, and will now rest at the NTC Promenade.   Teresa Espaniola, the Coronado artist who worked with 1st graders in Carlsbad to create the mural, will bring some of her other art pieces to help spread the word about plastic pollution in a unique and engaging format.  Drinks and appetizers will be served.

  • Sophie’s Gallery & Gift Shop – Bedrock! Featuring The Flintstones in a collection of cartoon drawings by  Tina Frantz.   Wine & Hors d’oeuvres and Live Music by Vibraphonist  Anthony Smith.

  • Pulse Gallery – San Diego Fine Art Society presents the abstract graffiti work of Cuban born  Silfredo La O.

  •  San Diego Watercolor Society Gallery –  Synergy  – Original water media paintings from artists of San Diego Watercolor Society.  Meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments.  

  • Visions Art Museum: Contemporary Quilts + Textiles – A jewelry trunk show from designer  Alexis Stephenson.  Also on exhibit:   Art Meets Fashion presents  Evolution Transformed  - the beauty of primordial underwater creatures transformed into fashions - and  Fabric-Free Fashion   featuring 22 fashion designers who have stretched the concept of fashion to include any material  except fabric.
