Behind the Scenes Tour of the Old Globe Theatre

After several requests from members, I'm happy to announce a private behind the scenes tour of the Old Globe Theatre!

Learn how the spectacular costumes are built; how the Scene Shop can make simple plywood look like fine drawing room paneling or an old barn; and how they built impressive sets to look like a stone castle, the “Grinch” storybook scenes by Dr. Seuss, or a remote island surrounded by water. Learn about the simulated food, statues, puppets and elaborate, fanciful headgear created by the Properties Department, and see their miniature bug orchestra in a glass case backstage. In addition, learn something informative about each of the current plays running, whether it’s a classic or, perhaps, a contemporary Tony Award-winning play or a new musical bound for Broadway.

$5 for adults; $3 for students and seniors.

This was the first time I attended a meetup of this group. Totally enjoyable morning outing. People were friendly and open. The tour was relaxing and very informative. This experience will change how I view live theater. I can appreciate what goes into the performance so much more! Thanks and hope to see you soon.

The Docents were fantastic. I am inspired to go see something at the White and I ended up changing plans last night to see Rocky, after seeing the set.

This Tour of the Old Globe Theatre was a special treat because I had never been behind the scenes of a LIVE theatre, especially the oldest one in the State of California. The two veteran docents were inspired and shared their passion for the history and significance of this landmark in San Diego.

Loved it. The Volunteer Docents were knowledgeable and enthusiastic as they guided us throughout the theaters and backstage areas. Thank you Rachel for organizing this wonderful event.

It was so great to see everyone, and the tour was amazing. It almost felt like time stopped during that special experience -- kind of like watching a play. :) Thanks to those of you who suggested we do this. I recommend it!

    Hello Rachel,

Do we pay you the $5.00 (paypal) or do we pay at the door? I'm looking forward to seeing this tour and everybody.

Greetings! I'm really looking forward to this tour and I hope you are too. As we approach the attendee limit, just a friendly reminder to keep your RSVP up to date. We don't want anyone to miss out who might want to go, and no-show RSVPs are subject to removal from the group. Thanks for your understanding, and see you soon!
