San Diego Folk Song Society - Sunday Circle

Our host for November will be Amos Jessup.   Amos is becoming well known around town for his smooth vocals, impeccable guitar work,  and polished interpretations of familiar tunes.

His theme will be "Trails".

"Trails" can mean songs of travel, songs of wrangling and driving cattle, songs of getting to where you are going in life, or looking back on you got where you are, songs of discovery or adventure into the unknown.  It's a big box to find songs in!

See you on the 24th!

There was a much smaller group of folks than usual, but several people were newcomers! Everyone enjoyed themselves, as we went around the circle almost three times. The theme of 'Trails' brought out a lot of cowboy songs and Amos deserves a big thank you for leading. There were several unique songs about other paths that take place in life, such as a mother raising her children to stand tall, divorce, traveling and hiking. Hope the newcomers return!

Amos, thanks for the description. Sounds like a great time and a great topic. I'm mostly in it for group singing of familiar songs so it may not be quite the right fit for me. Have a blast!

Hi, this looks like a fun meet up! Can someone tell me how it works? Is there a song list? Do we each provide some song titles in this category? Does everyone join in singing?

To answer Ellen--we sit in a circle and beginning with the host, we take turns around the circle doing a song that is related to a pre-announced theme--this week, "Trails". But it's a loose definition--any series of steps can qualify if it gets you along toward where you're going. Some people bring song sheets and many do not, some invite singing along and playing along with them, others request no accompaniment, and often there are a dozen instruments and voices chiming in on well-known songs. Hope to see you there!
