I have been playing about 7-8 years in an on and off fashion. Mostly, when I play alone I dig my way through old jazz standards. I read tab pretty well and have ambitions to be able to sight read from musical notation. I sing like an old frog so I try to make do with interesting arrangements. I play with a trio and we are seeking a fourth for a quartet. We are very amateur but enjoy a lot of ensemble music, finger picking and old standards. We play at an intermediate level. If anyone is interested please contact me at [masked]. We meet Monday a.m. at 11:30 near Balboa Park.
I own a lovely Kanile'a Tenor uke and I am looking for a quality baritone that I can string GCEA to get a lower and fuller sound. I have a good library of ukulele books and I may be the best read, bad player in town.
If I live long enough I would love to be able to play While My Guitar Weeps..... I may have to settle for Mary Had a Little Lamb.
Your group meets about 10-12 minutes from my home. Location is great!. People seem very friendly and I think I relate to the personalities I met last night and the level of music that you play. FYI I am part of a group putting together a weekend of concentrated ukulele instruction at a retreat center near Big Bear on Oct. 26 and 27. To be called the CA. Uke Academy and it will be a solid weekend of structured classes with well known instructors as well as jamming in the evening. Sarah Meisel is working with me.
I visited for the first time last night and enjoyed meeting with so many ukulele enthusiasts. You are a happy bunch!
