I encourage you to join this support group if you, your child, family member, or spouse have Asperger's Syndrome. If you're someone who works regularly with children on the spectrum and wish to learn more, this is the group for you as well. I'm the parent of two teen boys (16 and 18) and a husband of 21 years, all of whom have Asperger's. I wish to share my knowledge, trials, and tribulations with those who join. Also, I'd like my members to share their knowledge of being on the spectrum. Parents and spouses (such as myself) certainly need understanding, guidance and knowledge of what it's like being the mother/spouse of one with Asperger's. Children are certainly welcome and encouraged to attend, which is to help them establish a peer group and, hopefully, make and maintain new friends. My two teens will also be in attendance occasionally, sharing their insight and experience as teens on the spectrum. However, I recommend that if you have a child on the spectrum under the age of 10, that they not attend meetings, as we don't have any very young children in attendance. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this issue.
With this group, I can help provide you with my at least 15+ years dealing with the ups and downs of having a child or spouse with Asperger's, as well as going through IEPs and helping you advocate for your child. The members of this group also have insight and knowledge that can really help those of us not on the spectrum understand. This is the group for you to gain understanding and insight, as well as empathy to those with Asperger's Syndrome.
A monthy Youth Group is also part of our schedule, with several successful outings already. Please see the schedule for information and dates, or contact Renee' for more information. On occasion, we will have guest speakers and seminars. More authors and speakers are in the works, and further information will be provided when the time comes.
Please join us for support, information, and insight from those who knows what you're going through. Let this group comfort and guide you as you and yours travel on this journey called living with Asperger's Syndrome.
