SOL Food Festival in Santa Barbara via Amtrak

We are scheduling another day trip to Santa Barbara for their SOL (Seasonal, Organic and Local) Food Festival (couple blocks from State St. in downtown Santa Barbara).  It is a one day community created festival to raise awareness of the Sustainable, Organic, and Local food systems of Santa Barbara County.

Check out their website for all details on the festival.

http://solfoodfestival.com/

Because it was such a success last year, we will take the relaxing trip on Amtrak to beautiful Santa Barbara - whitewashed walls, red-tile roofs, gentle slopes, lapping waves, swaying fronds, stately churches and private estates to attend this annual festival in time for lunch. Cozy, comfortable and great to meet and socialize with our members as we use affordable Amtrak to take us to Santa Barbara.

***** SERVICE ALERT (Updated 9/6/13) *****

The Saturday service back to Union Station has been discontinued.  The final stop will be in Glendale.  You will want to leave from and return to Glendale or Van Nuys where there is free parking.

The planned Amtrak trains remain the same, but the schedule has changed as follows (leaving from Van Nuys):

Pacific Surfliner 763:   Leaves Van Nuys Station at 9:36A (Glendale at 9:17A)

Arrives in Santa Barbara at 11:40A

Pacific Surfliner 796:   Leaves Santa Barbara at 6:58P

Arrives in Van Nuys at 9:05P (Glendale at 9:16P)

Cost:  $48 roundtrip (potential additional 10% discount using AAA or 20% Car Free discount that would reduce the cost to as low as $38.40).

*************************************************

A proposed agenda will follow at a later date as we start requiring confirmations from those interested in attending at the beginning of September.   As an overview when we arrive at 11:40A, I would suggest checking out the SOL Food Festival and have a casual ad hoc lunch with their healthy food offerings.  We can then break out in groups or stay all together and spend the rest of the afternoon either hanging around the food festival with their related activities, State Street which is the main drag with everything from boutiques, galleries, bars, and of course, La Arcada, a warren of prosperous retail spaces that date to the 1920's.  There is also the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the beautiful gardens at Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens to visit and see if you haven't been.  Or we can even consider doing something more active at the pier such as bike riding along the coast.

Attendees will be responsible for purchasing their own Amtrak ticket or making their own transportation arrangements to meet the group in Santa Barbara.  This event will require a lot of walking and the train car that we will ride may NOT be handicap-accessible.  Comfortable walking shoes and sweater or sweat shirt should be consider as the train and the coast may be chilly.

For now, if you are interested in going, please put yourself on the Wait List and pencil the date in your calendar.  If you can't make the date or have changed your mind, please change your RSVP to "NO".   As we approach September, I will be asking those on the Wait List if they are still interested and to confirm by asking that everyone to purchase their train ticket to move you to an RSVP "YES".

************************************************

NOTE UPDATE (8/29/13):  BUY YOUR TICKET NOW and indicate that you have purchased and are confirmed in attending this day trip to move off the Wait List.   The link is in the comment section for a 20% discount on your Amtrak ticket.

*****************************************************

As we approach September, we will start looking for some commitments from those who are on the Wait List.  Hope you are available on the chosen date and will be able to join us for a full fun-filled Saturday.

Sign up now and get on the Wait List and confirm the purchase of your train ticket to be counted!

Another great fun and relaxing day in Santa Barbara. Thanks to all who joined us for all or part of the day from all the different meetup groups. The SOL festival educated and inspired to participate in the growing Sustainable, Organic, and Local (Santa Barbara) food movement and the creation of a healthier, happier, and more sustainable community. Great FREE samples too!

Victor, Union Station does have a return train from Santa Barbara. It leaves Santa Barbara @ 6:02pm and arrives @ Union Station @ 9:00pm.

    September 8, 2013

    • Victor

Have you purchased and confirming your ticket? You can take the 6:02P if you'd like, but you will need to keep track of time to leave earlier than us leaving at 6:58P.

      September 8, 2013

    • Estelle

I haven't purchased my tickets. I might have a conflict and want to be certain of my schedule prior to purchasing and confirming.

      September 8, 2013

  • Victor

So far, it looks like Ray, Estelle, and Diann will still leave from Union Station, but will leave earlier from Santa Barbara to be able to return back to Union Station. If anyone else is doing the same, please coordinate among yourselves to meet each other at Union Station. The first group will get on at Glendale and the second group, including me, will be getting on at Van Nuys. I would suggest we get on one of the last couple of cars of the train so we can all find and sit with each other as we embark from our respective stations.

    September 8, 2013

    • Nicole

Yes! I agree, I want be with the group in the same train

      September 8, 2013

  • Nicole

I'm leaving from Van Nuys at 9.36 A M. Hope to meet you people who will be onboard in the same train.

Victor: Union Station is the most convenient for me, so I am keeping my existing tickets. I will meet you in Santa Barbara. I suggest we meet at the train station. Please send me you phone number and I will text you when I arrive. Mine is[masked]

    September 8, 2013

    • Victor

Union Station is convenient for me as well, but I need to be on the same Surfliner train #796 with the majority of the attendees. I believe you had already planned on leaving an hour earlier than most of us, but the Starlight at 6:02P is not an express train and will arrive just about the same time as us leaving at 6:58P.

**** NOTICE: For those that were planning on leaving and returning from Los Angeles Union Station on our Santa Barbara day trip, Amtrak has changed their schedule and the return train #796 will no longer go all the way to Union Station on Saturdays. You will need to call[masked] to change your ticket to either leave from and return to Glendale or Van Nuys. I am now leaving from the Van Nuys station at 9:36A (Amtrak #763) and returning to the Van Nuys station at 9:05P (Amtrak #796).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
