"The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (1947): An eternal romance

If you'd like to have dinner after the movie, please note that in your RSVP, so we can get a head count. We'll go to Cafe Epi (click the name for info), at 7:30 PM. Order and pay at the counter. Because of its size, we're going to limit the number of diners to the first twelve (12) to RSVP. Dinner reservations are now full. Thanks! Please update your RSVPs, if your plans change. We'll meet at the theater, around 5:15 PM, IN THE BALCONY. Show time is 5:35 PM.

The Stanford Theatre does not accept credit cards, so come prepared with $7 cash for your ticket.

And now, on with the show!

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) Starts: 5:35 PM, Ends: ~7:20 PM

Starring: Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison, George Sanders, Natalie Wood
Director: Joseph L. Mankiewicz
Plot: At the turn of the 20th Century, a young widow escapes from her meddling in-laws, in London, and rents a seaside cottage, with her little daughter and housekeeper, in tow. What she doesn't count on is the former owner's ghost haunting the cottage, and even more, that the two will fall impossibly in love. One of the finest romances Hollywood ever produced. Tierney and Harrison make a perfectly (mis)matched couple. Charles Lang's cinematography is richly atmospheric, and Bernard Herrmann's superb score presages the masterpiece he would create for Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, over a decade later.
