I was hoping to do Henry Coe this weekend, but the temperature forecast there is in the 90's, so instead we'll beat the heat with a nice hike through the trees to Muir Woods. We'll avoid the busyness of the main entrance, and hike down from the Panoramic Highway, then back up the (partly along the Dipsea Trail).
The hike is about 4.5 miles, with about 1,200 feet of climbing. I'm following an EveryTrail hike route (here's a map) that I've done much of before, but never in this configuration. I also haven't scouted it out for rocks, but I'm sure we'll see a few, as well as lots of plants and animals. Really, I just want a cool hike on this hot weekend.
So, not a lot of promises for this hike, except:
- There will be great people there (that includes you).
- No one left behind.
- You'll get to hike on the Dipsea Trail!
Even though it will be cooler than much of the Bay Area, be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, etc. We'll stop along the way for snacks and a short lunch break, so bring some food
Kids who can do the hike are welcome. Dogs are not allowed in Muir Woods, nor on my hikes in general.
Parking is in the lot across from the Mountain Home Inn. Hopefully there will be plenty of space at 930, but if you are forced to park along the road, be sure to walk carefully and read the sign carefully (some of the stretches are strictly enforced no parking).
We should be done by 2:00.
See you soon.
