Los Trancos Open Space earthquake tour; 3 miles

Rain or shine: This hike is short enough that I think it will be fun to hike in the rain.

Brief description: The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District created the San Andreas Fault Trail at the Los Trancos Open Space Preserve. Los Trancos' hiking-only trail features 9 stations and an accompanying brochure, which instruct about sag ponds, benches, and other earthquake phenomena. This is a small preserve, but we'll combine the easy earthquake circuit with two other loops at Los Trancos, for hikes from 2 to 3 miles.

More complete details here: http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/lostrancos.html Read the parking directions on this link carefully. People on other Meetups have said to give yourself extra time to get here because the roads are very winding.

This should be a leisurely hike. We'll probably finish the hike in 2-3 hours, given that there are so many guideposts to look at.

See also: http://www.openspace.org/preserves/pr_los_trancos.asp where you can download a PDF version of the tour brochure.

Kids are welcome; dogs are not.

There's no RSVP limit, but we've been averaging 25 folks actually showing up. Please remember to change your RSVP if you change your plans.

Please gather at 10:00 AM. I'll give an introductory talk with a bit of background on the region, if you've heard this before, just make sure you arrive by 10:15. If you get there late and can't find us, my cell number is five one oh,[masked] (please post advanced questions by email, not by phone).

I last did this hike four years ago, time for a repeat

Most of my hikes have good weather, but this is the second time I've done this hike and both times it was drizzly. Thanks everyone for coming out and joining me in a great wet weather hike.

Jonathan, could I please catch a ride with you? What time will you be leaving? I can meet you either at Bart or somewhere else. Thanks!

Hi all, if you're getting these late and wondering why, it's because of the Meetup server attack and some emails have been delayed.

This was a great meetup today. Even the weather did not stop us from having a great day. The presentations by very knowledgable participants made the hike worthwhile. It was great meeting you all. Thanks for organizing.

I'm doing Quirky Berkeley, since it is in my neighborhood. However, I really enjoyed the last hike and will attend future events.

Hi Rosemary and Nikki I am coming from Pleasanton. If you two are still looking for a ride I can possibly drive up and pick both of you up or if you can take BART to Dublin/Pleasanton station and meet that way. And of course if anyone else needs a ride. My Scion xB seats 5 people total including myself.

How about extending the hike into Monte Bello Open Space?

    February 24, 2014

    • Lee T.

Mark, we'll do the 2-3 miles as advertised, and others who wish a longer hike are welcome to continue on (there likely will be people up for the extra miles, but I'm not sure if Katie and I will have time to join you).

Wondering if there's a carpool list for this group in google groups or otherwise. Would like to ride with someone from Oakland if possible. Thanks!

    • Lee T.

Rosemary, I've tried creating other means for carpools, but it seems the best is just to mention where you're coming from and if you need or can offer a ride. (I sure wish Meetup would add a carpool option.)

I'll be coming from Santa Cruz; let me know if you (anyone) need a ride. I can accommodate up to three passengers. Email me via Meetup.
