I am interested in real case studies and interesting tools for scaling and maintaining high uptime for large scale web services. Specifically, networking, monitoring, backup, provisioning, and operational team management (ie, where to automate and what to keep manual.)
Going on 15 years of systems and network infrastructure design for deployments of all sizes (okay, not Google/Facebook/Zynga size yet!)
Networking - how do you keep things as simple as possible but complex in the useful ways for huge web farms? How do you choose what parts of the networking to segment?
I'm a systems consultant, with a bunch of experience under my belt running large production websites, and always looking to learn new methodologies, tools, and stories. Happy to share what I've learned.
