Photo Reviews with Oliver Klink

The photo review session with Oliver Klink is coming May 1st! Now is your chance to get constructive criticism by a world renowned photographer on how to improve your photo. If you've never done it before, I strongly suggest you try it. The review is anonymous (photo authors are not announced), so there's nothing to be afraid of! If you want to participate in this educational session, please upload your photo now - see the instructions on the meetup site. If not, you are still welcome to come and observe. Depending on time available, Oliver may also give us an interesting presentation.

The following day, all of the images will be made available for viewing here.

Oliver will provide constructive criticism and feedback about your images. Image evaluation is a personal taste, however, he'll discuss elements such as first impression (feelings, mood), composition, visual and design elements, and presentation.

At the end of the meeting, Oliver will share his template that he uses to grade/assess images.

We'll review as many images as we can until we run out of time. Oliver will also select his 10 favorite images for the "Best of Show" album.

I understand some people aren't comfortable having their work reviewed in public, but please rest assured that reviewing is anonymous. Nobody will announce your name; only the winners will be named.

would love to attend your critiques in Sf, but don't like to drive over there after dark. I could make arrangements for you to use the multipurpose room at the Castro Valley Adult school if you are interested. If we schedule it ahead, and I can be teacher of record, no charge. Overhead projector and large screen, plenty of chairs and tables if we need them. just send me an email at [masked] and I will check it out for you.

The photos now seem available online. A number of them look quite different. For example Rain in Barcelona you can now see one of the umbrellas was red, which really changes the image for the better (IMHO). Cool.

Very informative presentation. It was great to see how evaluating photos can help improve your skills. Was curious if we will be able to see the images online? I have a feeling that many of the photos will look different online. I think for a number of the photos the projector didn't do a great job of showing the full dynamic range and more. I noticed on the link to the online gallery there was a password required, and I don't think we ever got that? In any event, it was an excellent event.

I was wondering if I could join the review and appreciate others' photographs without submission.

Is the size correct 11x8.5 72 ppi?How many pictures can we upload?
Please let me know. Thank you.

    February 10, 2013

    • Sam

Just one photo in jpg format, at least 1600x1200px. The other technical information is irrelevant since it will be taken care of automatically by the hosting site.

Will SlickPic display the full size images after that night, meaning they'd be easily downloadable? Or will they display somewhat smaller-sized ones? At one site, many have found their large images on other websites so there's an informal community watch there.
On another hosting site, they keep the original large image in a private password-protected area while displaying a smaller one for that reason.

    February 15, 2013

    • Sam

      1. The photo download will be disabled. Right click saving will be disabled. 2. The maximum photo display size will be limited to 2560x1600px for the original size photos or lower for the lower resolution. 3. At the meeting I will describe what kind of privacy/security measures will be taken and it will be easy to opt out at the end of the meeting.

I will not be able to handle USB disks at the day of presentation, so photo needs to be uploaded. You'll have enough time to do it before the event.
