I myself will be attending the event Friday through Sunday. Sorry, but personal matters prevent me from getting there to attend Thursday. If someone is willing to aid me and host on Thursday I'd greatly appreciate.
I've been searching around and found prices on Bookit.com to be very reasonable. However if you find a place you'd like to stay at on this site, contact the establishment of interest to see if they price match. If they do, you may have a better chance of securing a room in the area of the hotel you'd like to stay (i.e. Gulf view). Additionally, the hotel may only require you to pay a reservation fee now and pay the balance upon arrival. This will give you time to save if you can't afford to pay the total outright as required through Bookit or any other travel company.
Bookit bundle (hotel and flight) rates were good (2 room occupancy), but the options on flight travel times were lousy (10 to 12 hr travel time). I found that the total price of booking a room directly with the hotel and a flight through Southwest were comparable to Bookit, especially if they price match. If you take your time and search prices, you can get your room (5 dy/4 nts, an event ticket and r/t flight for about $1,000.00 (if the hotel price matches).
Hope this information is helpful. I know its the holiday and a bit early for some, but I wanted to give everyone ample time to plan if they wanted to go. If you are interested in making this a group invent, please let me know.
