How to Become a Data Scientist

For this event, please register on Eventbrite:  http://becomingadatascientist.eventbrite.com

On your way to becoming a data scientist?

There are plenty of articles and discussions on the web about what data science is, what qualities define a data scientist, and how you should position yourself to be a competitive applicant. There are far fewer resources out there that explain the concrete steps to take in order to obtain the skills necessary to break into this fast-growing industry.

Join us for a discussion about how to start working towards a career in data science. You'll leave this event understanding both on-your-own and structured options for beginning your career in a data science role. You will also have a list of the best resources to use to plan your studies.

The first speaker for the evening is Ryan Orban, Co-founder of Zipfian Academy. Ryan and his team train and place data scientists through their programs at Zipfian Academy. Also speaking is Dennis O'Brien, who will give his perspective on his first year of working as a data scientist.

Can you say if this meetup would be suitable for an advanced-career computational physicist looking at options, or is it aimed more at early career?

    2 · June 24, 2014

    • Katie K.

The event is designed for someone who has data science skills already and is looking to break into the industry in a first bona fide "Data Scientist" role.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
