I agree that trip planning should be informal, as you suggest. But there seemed enough synergy at the first meeting to justify monthly or bi-weekly meetups. Could we use the LGBT Center as a venue?

I'm not sure. Could you look into that Keith?

After Sunday's meetup I've been giving some thought to how this group could work best. I've come to the conclusion that the group should probably not be in the "business" of formally planning trips. Instead, I think it should function as a platform where like-minded men can meet each other and if they find common ground in terms of destination/schedule/travel style they can take the initiative themselves to plan a trip. In other words, the group would serve as a conduit to connect people who would then plan their own trips. For example, say two guys found that they both were interested in going to Croatia in October. They could announce the trip on our Meetup website to see if anyone else were interested in joining them (or they could just go on their own, of course). To facilitate this interaction we could have meetups every couple of months where members could get to know each other and find common ground. I would love to hear your thoughts about this.

And by the way, is anyone interested in organizing or hosting the next meetup? I might be able to do it at my place but I only have a one-bedroom apartment (though it does have a deck/backyard we could use). And, also, I am looking for a travel companion in late Sept early Oct. Possible targets: Croatia, Tuscany, London, Corsica. Anyone interested?

Darn. I guess I need to check in with my email when I go away for the weekend. I came back to be at the Meet Up, but when I went to Squat and Cobble no one was there. Now I see why. Well hope it went well and hope I can make it to the next meeting. Can anyone tell me what went on? Thanks!

We had a terrific turnout for our first meetup — more than 20 people. It was a pleasure meeting so many interesting guys and learning where they have traveled and where they would like to travel in the future. I will try to organize another general meetup in the next month or two. In the meantime, I will send out a message in the next few days listing who is interested in going where, so that folks with similar interests can get together to organize their own trips. Thanks everyone!

Hi everyone. Due to the large number of attendees for our first meetup on Sunday morning, the venue has been changed to Jumpin' Java Coffee House at 139 Noe Street, which is about two blocks from Squat & Gobble (the original venue). Sorry for the inconvenience.
