  • To The Great Chicken People!

This is not quite a meet up, however...

Andy, brew master at Southern Pacific in the mission says he will be brewing all next week if any one wants to take a bucket down and grab grains for your chickens. He usually has them by 1 pm, so stop by with some eggs, grab a beer or some food, and make your chickens super happy!

Just called the Southern Pacific Brewing Co - and Andy no longer works there so we can't get the grains from that place any more. Is there another place where we can get some grains for a hens?

I have a bunch of older chickens 3-4 years old and I have one silver laced cochin that is about 8-9 months old. Wondering where I could get some more chicks later on as my older hen pass away. I love golden laced brahmas, barred rocks, black-sex links, and cochins. I don't drive so I was hoping I could get them some where close where I can bart or bus to get them. Otherwise I could hook up with someone within this group to get a few chicks later on.

Hi all! I recently got 4 baby chicks (2 wyandottes and 2 buff orpingtons) that I adore but unfortunately cannot keep due landlord issues. I have all the starter supplies including feeder, water, heat lamp, pine shavings, and feed and was wondering if anyone would like to give these chicks a home. I would happy give them away for free to a good home. Pls message me if interested

Boy, I wish I'd seen this note earlier. I lost a Buff Orpington to a raccoon a few months ago and her buddy is so lonely. Do you know if there might be one available still? Wish I know why I'm not receiving emails from this group!

Hi! I’m an urban poultry keepr desperately seeking someone with experience in poultry AI. I’ve contacted every 4H group I could find, but with no luck. Would any of you have such experience, or know someone who does? I’d be forever grateful.

Is anyone else having big issues with nocturnal critters getting in your yard? They're eating huge holes in the fence, even knocked down my hive! I might use metal at the bottom of my fences. Is it just my delicious smelling hens or is someone else experiencing this too? Thanks! I'm by Stern Grove area.

Tracy, your problem is probably raccoons, which almost everyone also have problems with. They are attracted in my yard by my fish pond, which they used to destroy nighly, until I installed a ssscat sprayer (meant for cats but works on raccoons too). They still dig up my yard sometimes; something I just have to live with.

it was last week, but Andy said he's brewing most of this week as well. best is to go around 1pm, grab a beer or some lunch and ask if Andy has grain available for chickens. ALSO, this week is SF beer week so there's some awesome stuff happening at Southern Pacific to celebrate!
