Macro-Description ...

This group presents an opportunity to experience -- rather than think.

A cursory definition of meditation is transcendence beyond the distracted, entropic meanderings of the 'mind' -- and resultant connection to Consciousness / Infinite Connectedness / One-ness. Restatement of the obvious - water represents the fathoms of our spiritual nature. Meditation is supported by the energetic fabric and rhythm of a body of water ... especially one as large and consummate as the Pacific Ocean.

Micro-Description ...

Upon meeting aboard the sailboat, the group will review safety considerations, after which novice meditators and non-meditators, if they request, will be given 3-minute introduction to a timeless meditation technique (of Taoist / Hindu lineage). Thereafter we will promptly motor through the marina and past the breakwall to the ocean. While the engine is running the group may freely share ideas. Once the engine is silenced. the group maintains silent meditation (eyes open or closed) for approximately an hour. The engine will then be re-engaged to return to the dock (during which discussion may ensue).

We do not set sail in unsafe or questionable conditions.

The group is FUN yet purposeful ... great way to quickly bond with like-minded/hearted participants.

Price is $25 per sailing journey.

Background of the organizer ...

The organizer is an experienced, professional (commercial) captain who learned to sail in San Francisco Bay, on coastal Pacific Ocean, on Lake Michigan, and piloted a 83-foot, 360-passenger tour boat (motor vessel) in Chicago on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. He owns and operates a 49-passenger tallship (77-foot wooden schooner) on Lake Michigan during summers.

After a brief stint in medical school the organizer lived with indigenous healers (shaman) for approximately a decade, merely with the intention to heal himself (and evolve - if possible). This experience cultivated a foundation upon which to ultimately serve as a holistic healing practitioner (energyworker, etc.) at Esalen Institute (Big Sur), in San Francisco and in Chicago.

The organizer has written 4 books regarding holistic philosophy/psychology/energetics and has taught nationally based upon the books. The books are entitled "Encyclopedia of the Tao: A-to-Z", "Conscious Relationship", "Voice of the Soul: A Call to Action", and "The Universe Speaks" (adapted as a screenplay -- a tale of synchronicity). For more info see www.andrewsadock.com. Finally, the organizer has created 3 cd's -- two of which support casual meditation and holistic practice (including yoga, t'ai chi, etc. sessions).

The prototype group met aboard a sailboat on Lake Michigan this summer -- see Chicago Sunset Sailing Meditation Group for more info including reviews.

"I am a long time meditator and spent a great deal of time on a sailboat growing up. But I've never combined the two! I would love to experience this and meet some other meditators."
