At our last zoo meetup we discovered that it's a lot easier to sketch the slow-moving animals. So this time we'll start with the flamingos, spread out to sketch whatever else is standing still and meet up again at the 3:45 giraffe feeding. We also had a problem with long waits to get in when the zoo opened, so this time we'll start after lunch--and outside of school holidays. (You'll still have to figure out how to escape from the office for the afternoon, but I can't think of an easy fix for that one.)
WHAT TO BRING
- San Francisco residents can get in free with proof of residence. Bring driver's license or other I.D. or bring a utility, phone or other local bill that has your name and address + current photo ID. Non-residents bring $15 for admission.
- A folding stool or other portable chair will give you a lot more options for getting good angles for sketching. There are lots of benches at the zoo, but I've found there's usually something blocking my view of the animal I want to draw.
L-Taraval MUNI, buses 18 and 23 will all take you right there.
There is paid car parking in the lot at the main entrance on the west side. There is free parking along Sloat, on the north side of the zoo.
Bike parking is in front of the main entrance.
