Hike Through The Redwoods, Then Picnic & Party in a Redwood Grove!

The Park: Armstrong Redwoods is a small reserve, with just over 800 acres, and features some of the largest old-growth redwood forest in Sonoma County. As you stroll through this beautiful old-growth redwood forest, you'll see some of the tallest and oldest trees remaining in this part of California. The Parson Jones Tree is about 310 feet high; the Colonel Armstrong Tree is more than 1,400 years old.

The Plan: We'll do a moderate (though for some strenuous) hike that will include a snack/drink break, and then after the hike we'll have lunch afterward down in the shady redwood grove, which is absolutely gorgeous! There are BBQ pits in the park so if someone brings a stove or charcoal we can BBQ like we did on Angel Island. We'll leave the food/coolers in the cars until after the hike.  We'll load all the coolers/food into one car and drive it to the picnic area.

The Hike: This will be a 6 mile hike w/1100' elevation gain (you might consider this strenuous depending on your condition & ability) up, around, and down through this beautiful redwood park.

DIRECTIONS: From Highway 101, take the River Road exit (North Santa Rosa). Go west on River Road until you reach Guerneville. At the second stop light turn right onto Armstrong Woods Road. This road will end at the park. The parking lot is on the right (just before the park entrance) - we'll meet there!  Plan on a full day of fun!

What To Bring:

Good Hiking Boots/shoes

Layered clothing, hat, sunscreen.

At least 1 liter of water (2 is better)  Fill your bladder/bottles 1/2 way the night before and refrigerate, then top off w/ ice in the a.m. and you'll have cool water all day.

Snacks/vino for our pre-lunch break during the hike.

Food and more food to share (salads, deserts, shrimp kabobs, steaks, dried fruit/nuts/seeds, chips, dips, salsa, - be creative!)

Coolers w/ ice and lots of goodies!

Vino to share (and paper or plastic cups)

Anything else you want to drink (wine, beer, etc.)

There is always a bottle of wine in my pack. Yes, I'm serious.

If you've been on any of my hikes you know what to expect.

Your sense of humour is an absolute must!

This is a combined event w/ other Meetup grps, so it will be a good opportunity to meet some new people.

Where do I start on this one? Hike rocked - weather was nice and cool, which made the elevation gain no problem (well for some). Now the best bit was the party afterwards. Being a social guy, I love the after party. Great grp today - great grp! Wonderful food, including those killer Jalapeno Cheesecakes Bill brought - rockin' dude! Very nice assortment of wines, including two bottles of Andy's home vinted vino. Thx Andy! For me this day was bliss, because I got so much feedback as to how much fun everyone had, and I saw people really enjoying themselves and connecting at the after party in the redwood grove. That's what makes the work that goes into this so worthwhile. Thx guys for making this a terrific day. I'd say the new grp's off to a good start.

Though not many signups from this grp, this will be a large hike and a great party (after the hike). This one listed on several Meetup sites and the numbers are large. Oh Boy!
