The Great Animal Orchestra

Outspoken musician and environmentalist Bernie Krause has been recording nature’s vibrant chorus – hippo grunts, birdsong and even a tree’s bursting cells – for decades.

Author of The Great Animal Orchestra: Finding the Origins of Music in the World's Wild Places, he says “a complex and vital beauty emerges hearing the sounds in context with each other.”

In the 1960s, Krause replaced Pete Seeger as guitarist for the legendary folk group The Weavers. Now, he uses the language of music to make an impassioned case for conserving one of our most overlooked natural resources, the music of the wild.

"The Great Animal Orchestra speaks to us of an ancient music to which so many of us are deaf. Bernie Krause is, above all, an artist."

Great youtube recording here, which is what convinced me to post this and attend:

This was great. So much fun to hear the different sounds and sounds of a forest before "controlled logging" and after.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
