WordPress Developers Night (#3!)

Get the Parking Pass

We are in DeSantis #2082

Is everyone feeling a little inspired and devvy after WordCamp? Hopefully you're itching to get together and talk code! We're back with our third-Thursday dev nights starting June 19th, where WordPress developers and dev-curious dive into juicy code-stuff. We're friendly to all skill levels.

Last time, we baby-stepped through building blocks of a theme, talked about creating shapes with CSS, and demystified the loop. This time we're hoping to build a program around you, your projects, problems--maybe we can solve them together--or topics you want to hear.

If you remember, we originally didn't want this to be a totally lecture-based meetup, but more collaborative and ad hoc. Was there something from WCMIA that you wanted to dive deeper into, or are you willing to talk about a project, concern, etc? Leave comments and I'll tailor the night around these.

I thought it was good. We need a little more structure if the attendees do not have any ideas for the night.

I enjoyed the unstructured format of this months meeting. While most of the time a defined topic is best, I heard a lot of good questions/answers and saw a few sidebar discussions as well. Sometimes, we just need that "think tank" environment. I hope the organizers of the group realize how much we all appreciate their efforts to put on these events. Thank you.

Thank you for acknowledging my post. I would like to learn how to blog and would need some guidance on how to (and since my leaving style is watching and then doing) would I like to find someone who knows how.

Q & A night. David and Michael graciously share their experience and knowledge. No matter what the subject is I try to attend. So worth my time!

I don't know if this would've been covered in the last meetup, but I have a project where I need to create a child theme for a plug-in. It's a job board plug-in. Are you looking for projects like that?

    June 5, 2014

    • Michael J. S.

I think that'd be an awesome thing to share. I've never thought about building a child theme for a plugin. Would be really instructive

Thanks, Michael. I will be sure to prep the sandbox version ahead of time so we can dive right in.

This may be off topic, but any recommendations on light weight themes that are woocommerce compatible? The requirement is for something fast, easy to change css, not looking for too many bells and whistles.
