BARC Monthly Ride - Coyote Creek Trail, San Jose

We will meet in the parking lot on Basking Ridge Avenue at 10 AM. The parking lot has no street address but it is right at the intersection of Basking Ridge Ave & Knollcrest Ave. in San Jose. The GPS coordinates of the parking lot are:

[masked],[masked]

If you go to maps.google.com and copy those coordinates into the search box, you can see exactly where we will meet.

We will ride the southern portion of the Coyote Creek Trail (the best part IMO) to its southern terminus in Morgan Hill. About one mile from the end of the trail is a retail center with a Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Red Robin, Chili's, Hawaiian BBQ, Dickey's BBQ and more. We'll enjoy some coffee and/or lunch before heading back on the trail.

The round-trip distance will be about 25 miles.

For those seeking optional extra mileage afterward, stick around and we'll ride from the meeting spot northward on the trail--will add another 20 miles to the ride.

Thanks for the fun ride. It was great to meet so many people and to ride that section of the trail.

That distance is very close to what my CatEye cyclecomputer showed, 41.44 km (25.69 miles).

FWIW: That means Google Maps was also spot-on...I used the start coordinates and the location for the Red Robin, and the "bicycle" routing option, and got the proper Coyote Creek trail and surface streets at 25.6 miles. Not bad!

Nice trail. A little rough, but that's what suspension is for. ;-p Appreciate everyone waiting-up...as usual my (lack of) fitness betrays me. Thanks to Zach for giving me a ride to the start, otherwise a bit too far from BART to attend. =D

I'm not going to be able to make it. I need to take care of some family stuff during the day.

I am having an issue with my knee.

    • Russell

Hope the issue is only temporary and improves!

Fighting off possible beginnings of a head cold, but hopefully will feel well enough to see everyone there. BTW.....my recollection, though trail is paved, it is a bit on the rough side in certain sections, cracks and bulges from roots. So for those having a choice between 2 or 3 wheels, would suggest trike may be most ideal. Either will be fine though. A fun ride.

The southern portion that we're riding is actually quite smooth, no one should be concerned about whether they're on a trike or bike. The northern half has a short section that has a few bulges, but when I rode a bike on it I thought that it was no big deal at all... maybe it has been improved on since you rode there last? Hope you can make it...

I'll be bringing my wife and a friend from Denmark, neither of which will be on recumbents but this should be an eye-opening experience for both of them. :-)

Looks like I'll be coming along with Zach on this one. :)
