From member John:
I am attaching a message from Dr. David Rummel, an anesthesiologist at kaiser San Jose. He is inviting our recumbent cycling group to join his annual 'Tour de Rummel' ride in San Jose on Sunday June 29.
I've done the ride 6 years in a row, the last 2 years on my tricycle. It's great fun with excellent ride support including SAG wagon and rest stops.
Dr. Rummel always has wonderful food and drinks at the finish, T-shirts and participant medals (and a swimming pool if you care to take a post ride dip). I usually get there around 8:30 or so for the 20 or 40 mile route, but the tricycle/recumbent wave probably wouldn't start until about 9:30am.
The only problem is that it's not a trail ride. The route takes us on back country roads along the reservoirs between San Jose and Morgan hill. There isn't much traffic but you still have to deal with the occasional car. There are a few low hills to climb but nothing a trike can't handle. And since we ride in a large pack, we're reasonably safe from the big motorized cage drivers.
Cost to participate: Free!
