Established in July of 2013, the purpose of this group is to form a community of recumbent cycling enthusiasts in the San Francisco Bay Area who enjoy riding with others on occasion and riding in a variety of locales. Whether you're a boomer on a bike or a tourist on a trike, this may be the group for you.
Don't have a recumbent? No problem! All are welcome no matter what kind of pedal-powered contraption you ride. You may even be offered a test ride on a recumbent bike or trike. Be warned though--the ride quality and comfort of a recumbent that fits you can be addicting...
The ride schedule is anchored by two monthly rides--the BARC Monthly Ride on the LAST SATURDAY of each month and the SF Bay Trail Monthly Ride on the third Sunday of each month. Start time is 9:30 AM (March-October) and 10:00 AM (November-February). These two rides are social-oriented rides "geared" to attract the largest mix of machines and capabilities and provides participants an opportunity to meet other riders. The location for the SF Bay Trail Monthly Ride remains the same throughout the year. Location of the BARC Monthly Ride will be on a different trail each month. Both monthly ride routes will be on paved Multiple-Use-Paths (i.e. bike paths) with only occasional use of roads (e.g. bike path road crossings, roads linking bike paths). The monthly rides will usually be advertised around 20 miles in distance and relatively flat. Some of the riders frequently agree to add additional mileage before and/or after the monthly rides.
Some of the locations for the BARC Monthly Ride include:
Iron Horse/Contra Costa Canal Trails (Dublin-Martinez)
Alameda Creek/Coyote Hills Trails (Fremont-SF Bay)
SF Bay Trail (Emeryville-Point Richmond)
Coyote Creek Trail (San Jose-Morgan Hill)
Guadalupe River Trail (San Jose)
Arroyo Mocho/Del Valle Trails (Livermore-Pleasanton)
Marsh Creek Trail (Oakley-Brentwood)
Stevens Creek/Shoreline Trails (Mountain View)
Bay Trail (Coyote Point/San Mateo - Foster City)
Other rides that BARC organizers and members post complete the ride calendar.
