Established in July of 2013, the purpose of this group is to form a community of recumbent cycling enthusiasts in the San Francisco Bay Area who enjoy riding with others on occasion and riding in a variety of locales. Whether you're a boomer on a bike, terror on a trike, or vice-versa, this may be the group for you.
Don't have a recumbent? No problem! All are welcome no matter what kind of pedal-powered contraption you ride. You may even be offered a test ride on a recumbent bike or trike. Be warned though--once you experience the ride quality of a recumbent that fits you, you may become addicted...
The ride schedule is anchored by the BARC Monthly Ride on the LAST SATURDAY of each month. Start time is 9:30 AM (March-November) and 10:00 AM (December-February). This is a social-oriented ride geared to attract the largest mix of machines and capabilities and provides participants an opportunity to meet other riders and compare riding preferences (e.g. roads vs. bike paths, distance, pace, amount of climbing) so that they may organize rides at times when an "all-feet meeting" is perhaps less appropriate. Routes for this ride will be on a different trail each month, with the goal that the monthly ride will occasionally be close to home for most everyone. Routes for this ride will focus on paved Multiple-Use-Paths (i.e. bike paths) with only occasional use of roads (e.g. bike path road crossings, roads linking bike paths). The monthly ride will usually be advertised around 20 miles in distance and relatively flat. Some of the riders frequently agree to add additional mileage before and/or afterward. The location for a following month's ride will be discussed/determined at the beginning of each monthly ride. Some of the locations may include:
•Iron Horse/Contra Costa Canal Trails (Dublin-Martinez)
