Lucene/Solr Hack Night with Grant Ingersoll

Join Lucene/Solr/Mahout Committer, Grant Ingersoll, in an open session Hack Night! Bring your laptop, your code, your ideas, and your questions and let's work on Lucene/Solr together! Pizza and beer will be provided.

Since this is a hackathon, the format will be informal.  We'll start off with some networking, followed by brainstorming areas people are interested in and then we'll split up into groups.

Some Areas of Interest:

  • Writing a Solr Plugin
  • Contributing to Lucene and Solr
  • Hacking Relevance
  • Spatial Search
  • Query Parsing
  • SolrCloud setup
  • Writing Lucene TokenStreams
  • Getting Started with Lucene and Solr
  • Lucene and Solr 4

Note, if you are planning on working directly on Lucene and Solr, please check out the code ahead of time, so that we all aren't downloading it at once!

A quick technical question: using Lucene, and given a document and a position, how can I *efficiently* tell the word that is located there?
    Thanks in advance

    Sorry if spam...

If you are talking about searching, Lucene doesn't search through the document directly. Instead it searches through the index it created.

If you know the doc id of that specified document, it's easy to get that information with lucene. Index document with position info.

I'd love to join but would need a ride from SF and back. Anyone going from SF?

I offerred him a ride but got no response. If anyone else needs a ride from SOMA, I'm leaving from 2nd/Howard exactly at 5:15. (We might arrive a bit late.) Please contact me by Tue night.

Hi All, Please note, we have changed the location of this Meetup (same business park, different building) in order to accommodate more people. If you attended our previous Meetup in January, it is in the same place. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Hi Grant, wish I could attend. I'd love to try hacking the Solr/IndexReader integration to support directly using multiple cores on a single server.
