Senior Research Engineer - Data Mining and Recommendations
LinkedIn - San Francisco (San Francisco Bay Area)


The Search, Networks, and Analytics (SNA) Engineering team is looking for an excellent and passionate engineer to work on our recommendation engine. You will be a part of the team that build data-driven features that make extensive use of Hadoop for data processing and works closely with the Search and Social Graph teams. The Recommendation engine is a center piece for Linkedin and is serving millions of requests with a very tight latency requirement. The team strongly believes in contributing to the open source community (you can see some of our projects here: http://sna-projects.c...­)

This role offers a seasoned engineer, with a blend of Machine Learning and systems skills, the opportunity to join a talented team and make a significant impact on both team and company goals.

Skills

  • Strong Experience with Information Extraction from unstructured data (Phrase Extraction, Chunking, Named Entity extraction, Statistical parsing)

  • Experience with Hadoop/Hbase/Pig or Mapreduce/Sawzall/Bigtable is a plus

  • Strong command on Algorithms, Data Structures and Machine Learning or Data Mining

  • Some expertise in clustering and classification techniques (Naïve Bayes, SVM, NN, Boosting Methods, etc.)

  • Experience with Data Normalization, Ontology management and Content Tagging

  • Experience with Java

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, test-driven collaborative and iterative programming environment

  • BS/MS/PHD in Computer Science or other discipline requiring quantitative analysis of experimental data


The preferred skills for this position are:

  • Solid understanding of all components of a search engine

  • Solid understanding in areas relevant to a recommendation systems is a plus

  • Experience with Lucene is a plus
