July's Writers Meetup

Whether you're currently writing, gave up but want to restart, or have always wanted to but don't know how to get started ... please join us for our monthly writers meetup. This session is a chance to discuss ideas, work through problems or roadblocks, and get some writing done. Space is limited for this event, but a waiting list is available. We will do everything we can to accommodate as many writers as possible without compromising the quality of the session. Please keep your RSVP updated and accurate!*

This will be our seventh meeting of 2013, and we'll be using the time to go through a writing exercise, set realistic and achievable goals for our writing, and deepen our understanding of the craft of writing, as well as talk through any plot difficulties or roadblocks you're experiencing. There will also be an opportunity to buckle down and get some serious writing done. July's craft focus will be on suspense & conflict in writing speculative fiction.

We kick off these meetings with a writing exercise, so please bring laptops or notebooks (as you prefer) and be prepared to write. Kingstowne Library is located on the back side of the strip mall (parallel to Telegraph Rd). We'll be meeting in the Kingstowne Meeting Room (we have the room until 5pm). There will be free wi-fi and power outlets available. There are also a number of great food options in the Landsdowne Center, including Greek/Italian, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese, if people want to grab food during or after.

*Since missing one of these meetups is taking a spot away from someone else who wants to go, we'll need to have a stricter attendance policy than normal. For writers meetups, a no-show will prohibit you from attending another writers meetup for 2 months after the no-show. In order to avoid a no-show, please update your RSVP no later than 10pm the night before a meeting. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!

Kent -- I agree about affording a little opportunity to write at closing. The meetings generate such a positive flow of creative energy, that it would be good to have an opportunity to immediately release some of that energy into any random and/or coalescing thoughts that one might have building up at that moment...

Oh, and I also think we should have a mid-meeting food fight with tapioca pudding.

Okay -- just kidding on that second one...

Always a fun and reinforcing event. Good discussion, too! Oh, perhaps we can do two writing prompts in the future (opening and closing?)? That really seems to energize and enliven our creativity.
