Game Night (no reading required!)

Please join us for our first ever game night! Whether you're a dedicated tabletop gamer, a Monopoly maven, a closet card shark, or haven't had the chance to play in years, this night is going to be a lot of fun. Gaming is a great way to get to know your fellow members, whether you've known them for a while or are meeting them for the first time, and we're sure this will be a memorable event. You're welcome to bring guests as well.

This event will be BYOG (Bring Your Own Games), and we'll have a decent amount of space to spread out in. Please use the comment thread here to announce what you'll be bringing (or to request something you'd like to play, in case anyone is willing to bring it). You can bring board games, checkers/chess/backgammon, etc. card games, Jenga, Taboo, or almost any other game you can think of. The only limitations are that you be able to play it indoors on a table, and that it's publicly appropriate (e.g. not 'strip' anything or a drinking game), though we will be in the reception room where we hold book discussions, not the main restaurant, so you can expect our group to be private. If you have questions as to the appropriateness of a game choice or any questions on setup, etc., please feel free to contact us here.

A little friendly competition is a good thing, but let's keep in mind that our conduct policies will apply as always (to both members and their guests). We expect all our members to treat their fellow participants with respect and consideration as we play, and to make sure to welcome other playerswho may want to participate in a game you're setting up or participating in.

The restaurant has a great menu of snacks, shareable appetizers, entrees, and desserts, along with a full drinks menu, and we'd appreciate it if everyone attending does order something, since Houlihan's is being so generous giving us the space to use. As such, please refrain from bringing any outside food or beverage as well. We've also arranged special drink pricing for our game night: $5 bottled beer (Sam Adams, New Castle, Heineken, etc.); $4 domestics (Miller Lite, Coors Light, Bud Light), and $4/glass of house wine.

This was a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone who came out and brought games! We'll definitely do this again in the future.

There are so many things I can never unhear after those Cards against Humanity games... :-P

I didn't expect to have NEARLY as much fun as I actually did! Some very interesting games, lots of fun people, and abundant opportunities to laugh with friends...old and new. Glad we did this! Oh, and some amazing food/drink prices!

Somebody left with a copy of Bang and its Dodge City expansion pack, and a copy of Guillotine. Please let us know if you have them! Their owners are sad. :-(

There's talk of having to work this weekend. Not sure if I will have to do that but don't want to be a no-show.

    August 9, 2013

    • Vijay

Feel free to add yourself back on if you free up!

      August 9, 2013

I will bring: Apples to Apples (4-8 players), Literati (Story writing game using uncommon words; 3-8 players is best), and Chicken Foot (Double 18 Dominoes; so, we could theoretically accommodate 15 players).

    Can bring dominion

    1 · August 7, 2013

    • Dave

It's probably better not to bring any expansions, or at least have a game going that doesn't have any. Dominion is loopy and complicated enough, even in its basic form! :)

      August 8, 2013

    • Paul

I like it a lot better with the 10 VP colonies, and 9 coin Platinum. There's enough folk that 2-3 copies of the game would be good as long as we don't mix decks. Anyone have dark ages?

      August 8, 2013

  • Rahsaan W

I'm going to have to put myself down as a maybe. It all depends on how I feel after my race earlier that day.

    August 8, 2013

    • Derek

Where's the "BOOO" button. j/k have a good race hope to see you there. And if you don't make it you can make us spicy chicken as penance.

      1 · August 8, 2013

    • Rahsaan W

Ouch Derek!! ;) Just for that No spicy chicken for you!! hahahaha!!

      1 · August 8, 2013

I hope someone brings Cards against Humanity

    2 · July 23, 2013

    • David L.

And all the retail expansions. No Christmas cards, sadly.

      1 · July 31, 2013

    • Marlo

I have some of the expansion cards to it, I think. I will bring them! :)

This will be my first time joining you folks and I'm excited! I will be bringing Hanabi. Also, does anyone have 7 Wonders (with or without expansions)? I adore that game, but I haven't had the budget to buy it for myself yet. Plus my regular gaming group loves it and many folks have it. Anyway, I look forward to meeting everyone and I may bring a friend.

    2 · August 8, 2013

    • Wes R.

Wish I had 7 Wonders. It's on my list of games to get, but I haven't seen it in a store and just haven't gotten around to asking my FLGS (friendly local gaming store) to order it in. Maybe I can pick it up tomorrow!

      August 8, 2013

    • Ellen H.

I have this too so will bring along, may have expansion. Have to ask my husband, he's actually the game collector.

    August 1, 2013

I won't be able to get there until about 5:30-6:00, so hopefully there will be a game I can jump into late! If not, though, I can just hover or play Solitaire until something opens up :-)

Not sure which game to bring yet

    July 29, 2013

  • Efe F.

Does anyone know how to play Texas 42??? It's a domino game that's similar to spades - 4 players, trump each round, played in partners? Just curious as I was going to bring dominoes!

    July 24, 2013

    • Beth

      Gin rummy!!!

      1 · July 24, 2013

    • Debbie H

I can bring some decks of cards for gin rummy or 500 rummy, a 2-track and a 3-track cribbage board, paper for scorekeeping etc. I'm not an expert at the games but I enjoy playing for fun. If there's interest I can bring the SW Monopoly also.
