October's Writers Meetup

Whether you're currently writing, gave up but want to restart, or have always wanted to but don't know how to get started ... please join us for our monthly writers meetup. This session is a chance to discuss ideas, work through problems or roadblocks, and get some writing done. Space is limited for this event, but a waiting list is available. We will do everything we can to accommodate as many writers as possible without compromising the quality of the session. Please keep your RSVP updated and accurate!*

This will be our tenth meeting of 2013, and we'll be using the time to go through a writing exercise, set realistic and achievable goals for our writing, and deepen our understanding of the craft of writing, as well as talk through any plot difficulties or roadblocks you're experiencing. There will also be an opportunity to buckle down and get some serious writing done. October's craft focus will be on NaNoWriMo preparation, specifically getting outlines and research ready to hit the ground running for November. Even if you're not participating in NaNoWriMo this year, you can use the time to prep for other writing projects you're engaged in.

We kick off these meetings with a writing exercise, so please bring laptops or notebooks (as you prefer) and be prepared to write. Pohick Library is located at the intersection of Old Keene Mill Road and Sydenstricker Road. We'll be meeting in the Pohick Meeting Room (we have the room until 5pm). There will be free wi-fi and power outlets available. There are also a number of great food options within a very short drive, including Italian, Lebanese, Mexican, Chinese, and sandwiches, if people want to grab food during or after.

*Since missing one of these meetups is taking a spot away from someone else who wants to go, we'll need to have a stricter attendance policy than normal. For writers meetups, a no-show will prohibit you from attending another writers meetup for 2 months after the no-show. In order to avoid a no-show, please update your RSVP no later than 10pm the night before a meeting. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!

So I think I will be writing for a bit at Midnight. Figured I would see if anyone is up for joining me.

Damn, folks! We had some really good stuff that was cranked out for this session. I seriously think we need to revisit the idea of co-authoring a short/short-short story book. This group is freaking awesome! Also, I'm getting totally stoked about NaNo in just a few more days! Hope everybody is using this time wisely to prep - outline, mind-map, brainstorm, whatever. It's awesome that so many of us are going for it this time! Good luck to all!

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
