February's Sci-Fi (Morning Session) - More Than Human by Theodore Sturgeon

Please join us as we discuss More Than Human by Theodore Sturgeon, winner of the 1954 International Fantasy Award (and nominated for the retro Hugo of the same year). The book is a fairly quick read, at about 192 pages.

Please keep your RSVP updated and accurate!* Space is limited for this event. If it fills up, please add yourself to the waiting list if interested. Please note that this is our morning session (our afternoon session can be found here).

From Amazon:

In this genre-bending novel, among the first to have launched science fiction into literature, a group of remarkable social outcasts band together for survival and discover that their combined powers render them superhuman. There's Lone, the simpleton who can hear other people's thoughts; Janie, who moves things without touching them; and the teleporting twins, who can travel ten feet or ten miles. There's Baby, who invented an antigravity engine while still in the cradle, and Gerry, who has everything it takes to run the world except for a conscience. Separately, they are talented freaks. Together, they may represent the next step in evolution -- or the final chapter in the history of the human race. As they struggle to find whether they are meant to help humanity or destroy it, Sturgeon explores questions of power and morality, individuality and belonging, with suspense, pathos, and a lyricism rarely seen in science fiction.

A quantum leap in the development of science fiction as an art.”  — Washington Post

*Since missing one of these meetups is taking a spot away from someone else who wants to go, we'll need to have a stricter attendance policy than normal. For book discussions, 3 no-shows in a rolling 3-month period will prohibit you from attending any other book discussion for 2 months after your last no-show. In order to avoid a no-show, please update your RSVP no later than 10pm two nights before a discussion. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!

I love it when I read a book, really like it, think I'm getting a fair amount out of it - then BAM, our discussions bring out SOOOO much more. And THIS is why I love bookclub! = : )
Great discussion with some truly inspired insights! Thanx to all for their contributions!

Thanks for a great discussion, everyone!

Also, did anyone leave a paperback copy of More Than Human that's checked out from the Prince George's County Memorial Library (Bowie branch)? If so, I have it, and can bring it to either the spy museum meetup on the 8th or the Range of Ghosts discussions on the 9th of March. It looks like it's currently checked out until March 11.
