Operation Spy at the ISM! (Museum meetup - no reading required!)

We have a special event in store for March. One of DC's lesser known treasures is the International Spy Museum. The museum "features the largest collection of international espionage artifacts ever placed on public display" and explores "the craft, practice, history, and contemporary role of espionage" from a global perspective. In addition to exhibits revealing untold spy stories from ancient times to the modern age, there's a special exhibit right now called Exquisitely Evil: 50 Years of Bond Villains, that's very exciting (and has at least a tangential and vague relationship to science fiction).

The museum also hosts a 1-hour immersive, interactive experience called Operation Spy, that puts you on a live-action mission with a team of spies, following clues and solving puzzles and employing spycraft. It's a lot of fun!

We've negotiated a special rate of $26.06 to enjoy both Operation Spy and general admission to the museum. Our rate is about a 12% discount on the standard rate. This rate will be good until March 7 at noon on a space-available basis. You must pay online in order to RSVP.

It's essential that everyone arrive by 1:30pm (1:45pm at the absolute latest), in order for us to make our slotted times for Operation Spy. We will have 15-person groups embarking on their missions at 15-minute intervals, so we need to have everyone assembled or you'll forfeit your space. Please budget extra time to make your way to the museum and find parking. Also, please read the visitor policies prior to the event.

After the visit, we'll be splitting into smaller groups for March's Post-Museum Dinner to explore some of the great restaurants nearby. You must RSVP separately for the dinner.

Also - a HUGE "Thank you!" to Vijay! This was no small endeavor - it required MASSIVE coordination and work!!! What a great job, too!

Marlo, Barb, Jeremy, Angela: when you get here you can go to the entrance line for general admission into the museum and tell them you're part of the book club group with a 4:05 Operation Spy time and you'd like to get into see the museum first. Come back to the left of the lobby near the stairwell by 3:55 please, for our Operation Spy.

Hi, everyone! I hope you're excited for tomorrow's museum meetup. We're expecting pretty nice weather, in the 50s.

One important note for anyone metroing in...Metro Center Station is closed this weekend. If you're coming in on the Red, Green, or Yellow Lines you'll have no trouble reaching the Gallery Pl/Chinatown stop. If you're coming in on Orange or Blue, instead of transferring to Red at Metro Center, you'll need to transfer to Yellow or Green (towards Greenbelt) at L'Enfant in order to reach Gallery Pl.

If you're planning on driving in, this site may help you find a garage:
Please build enough time in your schedule to park and walk to the museum.

    See you soon!
