July's Writers Meetup

Whether you're currently writing, gave up but want to restart, or have always wanted to and are serious about getting started ... please join us for our monthly writers meetup. This session is a chance to discuss ideas, work through problems or roadblocks, and get some writing done. Space is limited for this event, but a waiting list is available. We will do everything we can to accommodate as many writers as possible without compromising the quality of the session. Please keep your RSVP updated and accurate!* Also, it is important that you arrive on time (10 AM) so that we can get the most out of the session without disruptions.

This will be our seventh meeting of 2014, and we'll be using the time to go through a writing exercise, set realistic and achievable goals for our writing, explore and practice writing a speculative fiction subgenre, and deepen our understanding of the craft of writing, as well as talk through any plot difficulties or roadblocks you're experiencing. There will also be an opportunity to buckle down and get some serious writing done. July's subgenre focus will be on epic/heroic fantasy

Please note that we will be shifting the writers meetup 2 hours earlier than normal. We will be working through two writing exercises during the session, so please bring laptops or notebooks (as you prefer) and be prepared to write. Thomas Jefferson Library is located on the south side of Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard), east of the Beltway. We'll be meeting in the Kingstowne Meeting Room (we have the room until 5pm). There will be free wi-fi and power outlets available. There are also a number of great food options nearby, including Vietnamese, Chinese, and Latin American. Please bring your lunch with you.

*Since missing one of these meetups is taking a spot away from someone else who wants to go, we'll need to have a stricter attendance policy than normal. For writers meetups, a no-show will prohibit you from attending another writers meetup for 2 months after the no-show. In order to avoid a no-show, please update your RSVP no later than 10pm two nights before a meeting. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

I may have finally broken through my impasse with my 2014 April Camp NaNo story - thanx to our afternoon writing exercise. This is ALWAYS a creatively motivating event for me. Thanx to all who attended, and for all the great discussion contributions.

Likewise -- the "epilogue" segment of the meeting allowed me to work on a new coda for my wendigo novel, which I think I like much better than anything I've attempted up till now. I appreciate those moments to tap into the creative energy flowing throughout the room. :-)

Hi everyone! I hope you're excited for Saturday's writers meetup. Just a reminder that we're starting at 10am and we'll be at Thomas Jefferson Library. I'd strongly urge you to pick up lunch beforehand and bring it with you, since there will not be time during the meetup itself. And as always, please update your RSVP if your availability has changed. Thanks!
