August's Fantasy - White Cat by Holly Black

Please join us as we discuss White Cat by Holly Black, book 1 of the Curse Workers series. The author is also known for the children's series The Spiderwick Chronicles, but this YA novel is an edgier noir thriller mixed in with alternate history and an intriguing magical system. This novel is the first of a series, and all 3 books have been released. The book is a fairly quick read, at about 310 pages.

Please keep your RSVP updated and accurate!* Space is limited for this event. If it fills up, please add yourself to the waiting list if interested. The smaller morning session can be found here.

From Amazon:

Cassel comes from a family of curse workers—people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, all by the slightest touch of their hands. Since curse work is illegal, they’re all criminals. But not Cassel. He hasn’t got the magic touch, so he’s an outsider—the straight kid in a crooked family—as long as you ignore one small detail: He killed his best friend, Lila. Now he is sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat. He also notices that his brothers are keeping secrets from him. As Cassel begins to suspect he’s part of one huge con game, he must unravel his past and his memories. To find out the truth, Cassel will have to outcon the conmen.

Dangerously, darkly gorgeous fantasy.”  — Cassandra Clare (The Mortal Instruments)

*Since missing one of these meetups is taking a spot away from someone else who wants to go, we'll need to have a stricter attendance policy than normal. For book discussions, 3 no-shows in a rolling 3-month period will prohibit you from attending any other book discussion for 2 months after your last no-show. In order to avoid a no-show, please update your RSVP no later than 10pm the night before a discussion. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!

Me, too. The good news is there are two more in the series and they're just as good as the first one.

I actually kind of enjoyed this one! But I can't make it after all. Taking Emily on a college visit trip to New England.
