I am taking the Miami Kayak Club Camping this weekend, so join us. If you prefer to get an earlier start, please do. It does not hurt to stake out a nice spot on the island.
The weather has been lovely!?! Okay, will be lovely if not a bit breezy, and we have not camped nearly enough. So come out and stay the night this Memorial Day Weekend. Catch some fish to cook for dinner. Have a few drinks and a great time.
The fishing in Barnes Sound, Card Sound Bridge and the backwaters can be quite good. Expect a lot of boats during the day, most will leave as the sun sets. I plan on some night fishing too.
This is a family friendly outing. If your kids or other half don't have a strong passion for fishing there are other things to keep them busy. For the non-fishing folks, you can swim, play volleyball near beach (in the water), paddle over to Alabama Jacks for a meal and some cold drinks.
Miles will be on his sailboat so ice won't be an issue. Let me know and we can coordinate a large cooler for whatever.
Launch: From South-Dade Marina
Parking: Fee TBA. Expect about $6 per vehicle.
Event Fee: FREE
Carpooling is recommended. Plan to stop at Alabama Jacks on the way home for a meal and some icy cold drinks.
Paddle to Short Key, set-up camp and enjoy the evening.
Rentals: If you need a boat, they are available for the weekend. Singles (kayaks and SUPs) are $50. Doubles are $65. Call The Paddle House 786.307.3816.
Need dry-bags or lights? We have them too and at great prices. Call or stop by. The Paddle House, 2753 SW 27th Ave., Miami (Corner of SW 27th Ave. & 28th Lane). Ph. 786.307.3816.
Sailing? For those wishing to sail instead, and sleep aboard a sailboat there are 7 spaces available. Boats will be anchored away from any possible bugs. No tent is required. But you must bring your own bedding. You may also camp with the others on the beach. Transportation to and from the beach will be available. Fee is $50 per person for sailing and will include dinner.
